National Grid is hiring a Senior Supervisor for our Transmission Line Inspection team in Worcester. This is an in the field/in the office position. Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.

Job Purpose

To increase overall transmission system reliability by providing oversight of all Transmission Overhead and underground cable inspection(s) along with maintenance activities as identified by Transmission Asset Management work plans.

Primary activities include coordination and crew supervision of the inspection, maintenance, locating and emergency response activities associated with the operation of the transmission infrastructure and systems.

Key Accountabilities

  • On-site supervision and management of union and/or contractor workforce to safely

  • Respond to system emergencies across the NE system including both minor and major weather events as the lead for State Damage Assessment (aerial patrols) when needed.

  • Support continuous system maintenance and inspection programs. Ensuring that internal and external resource needs are adequately identified and assigned to fully support work plans, daily work activities, schedules, and budgets.

  • Provide quality assurance that work is performed in accordance with all specifications, company standards & Electric Operating Procedures (EOP’s), and contract documents, as well as trip/recloses and lockouts on an emergency basis including weekend call out as well as emergency storm events, as well as Plan and submit timely outage applications (TOA’s) and serve as the authorized clearance person or coordinate with the authorized clearance person.

  • Work with our internal safety partners to ensure that contractor Health & Safety Plans (HASP) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) documents are pertinent to the project, current, and are followed.

  • Provide the interface between field functions and all service partners. Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, survey site locations for inspection/access/3rd party considerations and attend program meetings.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Demonstrates a high level of personal initiative and efficient problem-solving capabilities. Should be able to work independently and empowered to make decisions to drive progress.

  • Exceptional leadership skills, confident, and highly motivated.

  • Strong aptitude in process improvement and performance delivery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Two-year technical or associate degree in construction management or engineering preferred.

  • Three to five years of underground transmission or distribution construction & maintenance supervisory experience, or eight to ten years of underground transmission or distribution field construction experience.

  • Ability to travel and work throughout the service territory for extended periods of time (overnight stays, extended hours and weekends as needed) in support of emergency situations, and potentially planned work.

  • Must possess the willingness and ability to fully understand and execute both Overhead (OHL) and Underground (UG) transmission cable and structure inspection and maintenance procedures.

  • Familiarity with underground electric transmission systems including pipe-type cable and solid dielectric cable.

  • Possess current certification for, “Flying in the Wires & Obstruction Environment” or commit to obtaining within 6 months of hire for the purpose of supporting aerial flight observations as well as Current, qualified “Clearance & Control” certification or ability to become qualified within three months of hire.

  • Thorough understanding of civil and electrical construction principles, equipment, work methods and hazards associated with electrical T&D work along with how to mitigate potential hazards. Ability to read and interpret job scope documents, construction prints, electricalone-line drawings, hydraulic diagrams, technical specifications, and contract documents.

  • Strong knowledge of state, federal and industry standards (OSHA, NESC, EEI), safety procedures (EOPs, HASPs, PHAs) and environmental standards.

  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.

Salary: $113,000 - $136,000
