This position works in DEED’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) division, which empowers Minnesotans with disabilities to achieve their goals for competitive, integrated employment and career development. This position is part of the Virtual Intake Unit (VIU). The VIU is responsible for assisting adult applicants in applying for services, completing eligibility for services, and transferring participants to the VRS office in the appropriate service area.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing administrative and financial support for individual services.

  • Providing quality indirect and direct support services to people with disabilities in a manner that fully aligns with division mission, goals, and objectives.

  • Providing accurate information to interested individuals and potential participants regarding Vocational Rehabilitation mission and services.

  • Providing effective case management support in accordance with agency standards so that efficient provision of services and agency objectives can be achieved.

This position is primarily remote, with occasional travel for meetings/trainings and for business needs such as collecting mail. This position is eligible to report to any of the following VRS offices:

Alexandria, Apple Valley, Austin, Bemidji, Blaine, Bloomington, Brainerd, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Cambridge, Chaska, Crookston, Duluth, Fairmont, Faribault, Fergus Falls, Hibbing, Mankato, Marshall, Minneapolis North, Minneapolis Northeast, Minneapolis South, Monticello, Moorhead, North St. Paul, Rochester, Roseau, Shakopee, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Staples, Thief River Falls, Willmar, Winona, Woodbury, or Worthington

*Hiring Incentive: The successful incumbent of this position may be eligible for a hiring incentive of $5,000 paid out in two (2) lump sums following the completion of the required probationary period and following two (2) years of successful service in the role

Minimum Qualifications

To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.

Skill in

  • Customer service sufficient to interpret and explain program information to customers, clients, and coworkers, such as policy, procedures, eligibility requirements, application details, and payment methods.

  • Accounting sufficient to review, analyze and verify financial records, calculate monthly fees, and prepare financial summaries and reports.

  • Math sufficient to calculate totals, averages, and percentages of numbers and/or data.

  • Data entry sufficient to maintain accurate records and reports.

Knowledge of basic accounting procedures sufficient to prepare itemized statements, bills or invoices, and record amounts due for items purchased or services rendered.

Ability to manage and address customers’, clients, and co-workers’ concerns tactfully and thoroughly.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the following:

  • Providing services to people with disabilities.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with diverse populations such as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Native American populations.

  • Working with StateWide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or other accounting systems and Workforce One platform or other online case management platform.

Ability to communicate in a second language (specifically American Sign Language, Somali, Hmong, or Spanish).
