Job Purpose and Impact

The NPD Assistant will coordinate all development kitchen activities related to current and new projects. In this role, you will support the technologist by performing laboratory kitchen tasks in an organized and efficient manner and in accordance with safety practices. You will work with the laboratory equipment, preparing kitchen samples, assisting product presentations, organizing, cleaning and maintaining kitchen workspace and provide training on kitchen equipment to other colleagues.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assist the technologists and development chef in making of bench samples, organizing and performing taste panels, assisting customer, internal and supplier presentations.

  • Administer grading and packing of samples and organizing transport to get them to their destination.

  • Maintain facilities and equipment to ensure the environment is clean, stocked with raw material and consumable goods and that equipment is serviced and calibrated.

  • Oversee and ensure risk assessment of all new equipment, maintain and develop documentation on standard operating procedures and guidelines and conduct kitchen safety audits quarterly.

  • Ensure that all required ingredients are ordered and collected from the factory to support ingredient stock maintenance.

  • Carry out periodic inspection to maintain and clear out factory ingredient stores, portable cold stores and cold storage space.

  • Perform various functions to keep the activities of new product development kitchen facilities running smoothly.

  • Handle complex clerical, administrative, technical or customer support issues under minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, secondary education level or equivalent

  • Knowledge of food production and preparation

  • Maintenance experience in the commercial kitchen or dinning service field

  • Minimum of one years of related work experience (desirable but not mandatory)

  • English Language Fluent (written and spoken)

  • Proactive initiative

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work, building time management skills.

  • Ability to working alone and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manual handling certificate

  • Basic food hygiene certificate

  • Organizational skills are required to keep track of all sample and documentation.

  • Intermediate proficiency using a computer.
