American Tower Lead Electrical Engineer in Woburn, Massachusetts

The Team

We are seeking a Lead, Electrical Engineer to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s Engineering team. The team maintains the safety and longevity of Company assets. Day to day you be the expert on electrical problems ranging from low to high complexity and lead unique projects for power systems that provide uninterrupted backup power for the Company. As a Lead, Electrical Engineer, you will partner cross-functionally to develop and drive processes, procedures, and technical policies for the Electrical Engineering group. Work with an amazing Engineering Team in our new Fenton location in Cary, NC. This role is a blend between voltage design, building design, complicated generator systems and data centers that have multiple levels of redundancy. If you are into complex Electrical Engineering this should be a role you are interested in learning more about. A (PE) Professional Engineer license is required for this position. This position will be required to be in the office on a hybrid office schedule, we will consider relocation for qualified candidates.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field required.

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (“PE”) certification required.

  • Required experience includes at least one of the following:

  • Minimum 6 years of electrical engineering design experience in telecommunications;

  • Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering design experience in other industries; and/or

  • Expert knowledge of the National Electric Code and Telecommunications design standards.

  • Ability to become licensed as a PE in multiple states via reciprocity strongly preferred.

  • National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveyors certification strongly preferred.

  • Experience designing and installing electrical components on telecommunications sites preferred.

  • Minimum 6 years of AutoCAD experience preferred.

  • Active member of either a professional organization or technical society required; desire to publish articles on updated design processes.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.

What You Can Offer Us

  • Lead major upgrade projects and assist with the specification of new equipment and related designs materials to solve complex problems and reduce costs.

  • Design, specify, and provide maintenance guidance for electrical systems and components of low to high complexity. Work independently on complex or unique projects.

  • Create and maintain the electrical sections of the Company’s Master Specification; develop, specify, and manage electrical engineering software tools.

  • Exercise the technical responsibilities required for sealing engineering work performed under your direction.

  • Keep abreast of major electrical engineering developments; develop and present technical training seminars. Perform detailed calculations and draft technical drawings and specifications to resolve electrical engineering issues, which may include visiting sites.

  • Develop new products and supporting calculations related to efficiencies with telecommunication facilities’ power supplies, including data centers.

  • Review and approve electrical designs submitted by outside carriers; communicate as required for electrical installations.

  • Work with project and construction managers to ensure business needs, codes, and quality standards are met.

  • Design and coordinate engineering activities to comply with specifications, codes, and customers’ requirements.

  • Adhere to quality control procedures; provide quality control review of engineering services.

  • Approximately 5% of the time the role will be performed outside of a conventional office environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.
