Novant Health Technical Data Steward III in Winston Salem, North Carolina

The Technical Data Steward III supports all organization-wide data stewardship activities and will be responsible for contributing to the deployment and maintenance of key Data Governance processes that pertain to the sourcing, management, development and consumption of data assets across the enterprise. The position will focus on ensuring enterprise data is trusted across the organization and adhere’s to data policies, standards and practices to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall needs.

The Technical Data Steward III is responsible for the assessment, improvement, implementation, and support of data quality initiatives across the Novant Health data platform. The Technical Data Steward III shares knowledge and provides mentorship to other Technical Data Stewards. Works closely with the Data Governance Team and various data governors and subject matter experts to improve the quality of data assets and support the strategic requirements of DPS. Assesses the current state of the Novant Health data platform for improvement opportunities within the six dimensions of data quality. Identifies potential data issues and downstream impacts. Engages with team to quantify and articulate the business impact of data quality issues. Initiates data issue investigation. Able to architect best practice solutions for resolving data quality issues. Communicates with source data owners and functional points of contact and collaborates to resolve data issues. Collaborates with Data Quality Engineers on required development of new data quality rules and modifications to existing data quality rules. Monitors data flows from systems to ensure data is delivered and meets Service Level Agreements. Develops and follows best practices in the creation of data quality reports, dashboards, and scorecards. Monitors, manages, and updates reports, dashboards, and scorecards. This may include accessing data sources such as Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake Storage, SQL databases; and visualization tools, such as Power BI and Azure Analysis Services. Utilizes the Master Data Management (MDM) user interfaces to manage unmatched records in collaboration with Operational Data Stewards. Supports data consumers and other stakeholders in navigating and interpreting MDM output and other data assets. Utilizes best practices, following policies, change management practices and procedures. Develops subject matter expertise of Novant Health Data Governance processes and how it impacts enterprise data development and consumption. Advocate and leader in raising Novant Health’s culture of data stewardship through coordination activities of Operational Data Stewards, and others responsible for managing Novant Health’s data asset.

  • Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree, required.

  • Experience: Minimum five years in a data stewardship, data analyst, or data quality engineer role. Experience with Microsft SQL Server and other data warehouse tools. Expert in working with data quality tools, such as Informatica IDQ. Expert with Microsoft Excel and other data reporting tools, required. Healthcare experience, preferred.

  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of business and technology disciplines

  • Experience with reports and dashboards, such as Microsoft Power BI

  • Proficient in data profiling and use of data quality tools, such as Informatica IDQ

  • Expert in data quality exceptions management

  • Experience with data quality rule thresholds, scorecards, and notifications

  • Strong ability to facilitate business collaboration and translate business requirements into technical requirements

  • Utilizes change management processes

  • Additional Skills (preferred):

  • Cleansing and de-duplicating healthcare data is preferred

  • Experience with electronic patient medical record systems and their reporting databases, such as Epic and Clarity

  • Experience with Master Data Management systems, such as Informatica MDM and E360

  • Knowledge of healthcare data

  • Experience with data warehouse, ETL process, and Microsoft Azure

  • Other technical skills, such as API, PowerShell, Dax and Power Query M, Python, Databricks, and Attunity a plus

  • Understanding of agile framework and methodology
