Job Purpose and Impact
The Canola Origination Merchant will contribute to maintaining a steady supply of canola seed to both Cargill crush plants in western Canada as well as for the export supply chain. Liaising with country staff and sales team to ensure we understand the market and have the appropriate bid for both free on-board farm and through house origination. You also have accountability for tracking values/prices for the sake of analysis and to better understand the price/volume relationship of seed in country locations.
Support and execute the canola origination strategy and basis bid structure for canola seed into Saskatchewan country elevators and Clavet, SK crush plant that optimizes the margin structure for the business. Develop origination plan for crush plant and elevators.
Collaborate with transportation and logistics, quality assurance, customer managers and credit manager to ensure efficient execution.
Plan purchases and transportation to maximize profitable use of stock and storage facilities.
Enter routine data and run specialty reports from our contract management databases and systems.
Research and analyze various freight opportunities in the marketplace to maximize margin.
Work directly with customers, suppliers and business counterparts to meet their needs in solving routine problems, and addressing complaints and concerns.
Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Agriculture, business/econ) or equivalent experience
Minimum of two years of related Merchandising work experience
Demonstrated skills/understanding of western Canadian agricultural supply chains.
Understanding of futures and basis
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Basic understanding of cash grain accounting (P&L)
Ability to work with a production team to manage the supply chain needs of customers
Preferred 3-5 years of merchandising experience
Demonstrated skills managing multiple tasks and stake holders in a supply chain
