Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Process Development Engineer will support Deli and Pet Food and their associated processes that create their product platforms. In this role, you will be part of the research and development team, driving and supporting implementation of process development work based on the business' defined technology needs that will enable their long-term goals. This position will lead and/or support process development and process improvement that will enable growth through innovation or drive efficiency through modification of current processes. You will develop, lead and execute research projects through commercialization in partnership with product development that are complex in nature and may require multidisciplinary approaches.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise to project teams and functions by offering technical guidance and scientific insight for new process development and process improvements.

  • Ensure projects proceed according to plan and results are documented and communicated.

  • Lead complex product and process innovation, as well as cost improvement projects to achieve business goals.

  • Identify, develop and implement new process or product opportunities that create distinct value and enable business growth.

  • Coordinate with various functions including business, food safety and plant operations to identify and lead evaluations of external process or manufacturing technologies or facilities.

  • Support and drive research and development efforts to connect business with technology partners such as universities, external research organizations and industry forums to identify market trends and needs.

  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship as needed.

  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Processing or related field

  • Minimum of four years of related work experience

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time

  • Ability to work in a cold environment and lift up to 30 pounds

  • Experience developing, leading and participating in multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of six years experience with cooked meat processing

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or operations environment

  • Experience working successfully in a matrixed organization
