Position Purpose & Summary

The Innovation Marketing Manager will be a key functional lead within the newly created Adjacent and Transformative (A&T) Innovation team for Protein North America. The A&T team is focused on accelerating innovation for our protein business anchored against both consumer and customer innovation platforms aligned with business growth strategies. The Innovation Marketing Manager will partner across functions to create robust business model canvases, execute both sprint and validation approaches, scope customer pilot plans and ensure a smooth handoff with channel and functional teams. The role will require exploring new concepts and disruptive ideas through objective analyses, competitive assessments, and embracing design thinking, allowing the team to continuously engage and co-create solutions before introducing these concepts to customers. This role will also provide marketing leadership to projects within our Growth Ventures portfolio – exploring new product lines and alternative channels. The position can be located in either Wichita, KS or Minneapolis, MN.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, is consumer centric, and who is excited about building new technology and customer-facing experiences. The Innovation Marketing Manager will manage the demand of multiple projects, be comfortable working on lean teams, across multiple product lines and channels, with strong influencing skills. Building strong connections with our core channel teams and developing solutions in alignment with channel strategies will be a key to success.

Principal Accountabilities

35% Guide Front End Innovation Through Sprint and Validation Techniques

Lead teams through ideation sprints leveraging both internal and external resources for facilitation. Develop robust business model canvases and work cross-functionally to validate key assumptions to prove viability, feasibility, and desirability of innovation concepts. Identify competitive offerings and assess their strengths and weaknesses. Create strong business model canvases to guide MVP development and pilot initiatives.

25% Develop Marketing Plans for New Growth Opportunities

Leverage front-end innovation research to develop in-market pilot plans. Partner with sales and channel teams to develop pilot programs that provide test and learn capabilities to enhance initial scale and launch plans. Develop sell in story and supporting capabilities to drive pilot programs.

20% Innovation Strategy and Platform Development

Drive development of Innovation Platforms through curation of both internal and external inputs such as consumer trends, primary research, voice of customer, group and channel strategies, new technologies, startups, academic partnerships, etc. Synthesize various inputs to identify problem statements that can be converted into both consumer and customer jobs for innovation. Lead Innovation Platform development and build pipeline of opportunity spaces for innovation.

20% Marketing and Communications Alignment

Provide strategic oversight to communicating innovation and growth ventures work to broader organization. Collaborate with A&T core team, Growth Ventures and other channel teams, M&I ecosystem, functional partners, and A&T PRT to ensure alignment across A&T activities. Co-develop launch plans for A&T projects with channel teams to ensure a smooth hand off of innovation activities.


Education, Experience, Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 7 years of experience in marketing and/or business development including new product/service development

  • Practical Innovation experience - Driving an innovation process from conceptualization through to launch

  • Proven track record of taking an idea and turning it into impactful results.

  • Strategic thinking and story-telling, ability to synthesize distinct data points into a clear strategic set of priorities and gain sponsorship for direction.

  • Leading through influence, with demonstrated experiences setting agenda, and driving business results in an environment with competing priorities.

  • Solid organizational and project management skills, including strong follow through skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines and work streams

  • Analytical thinker with assess diverse data sets and synthesize into insights

  • Resourceful and results-oriented self-starter

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills: able to present facts, thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise and convincing manner to stakeholders at all levels in an organization
