This position reports to Manager Engineering and Maintenance. The incumbent is responsible for the safe maintenance and reliability of the instrumentation, electrical, distributed control systems and power distribution systems associated with operation process equipment. They will be involved with employee relation, department morale, absenteeism, performance appraisal, counseling, and salary administration. This position will report to the site maintenance manager and will have up to eight direct reports.

Key Tasks:

  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to minimize costs, improve production, provide a continuous supply of electric power and effect utilization of labor and materials.

  • Develops long range strategic plans necessary to correct, improve, eliminate recurrent problems and implement systems to maintain our competitive position.

  • Must have the ability to direct troubleshooting, repairs and corrective actions during major equipment failures.

  • Directs training of workers to improve performance and acquaint them with company policies and procedure.

  • Cooperates with other management personnel in solving interrelated administrative, organizational, and technical problems to improve production and reduce costs.

  • Submits budget recommendations and controls spending to achieve profitability.

Skills:

  • A general understanding of managerial techniques such as budget preparation, performance appraisals, salary administration, planning and scheduling, cost control, plant equipment and processes is necessary, but this can be acquired on the job.

  • Human relations skills acquired through the experience of previous supervision is extremely beneficial.

  • Responsible for maintenance and reliability of plant distributed control systems.Responsible for implementation of instrument and electrical safety programs and procedures consistent with the NEC, NFPA, and OSHA standards.Responsible for adherence to required Preventative Maintenance frequencies for PSM critical instruments.

  • Establishing and maintaining the preventive maintenance program on electrical equipment, plant instrumentation, analyzers, and distributed control system.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not required with associated training and job experience.

  • Several years’ experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and instrumentation systems is essential.

  • Continuing technical education programs are required to stay abreast in this rapidly evolving engineering field.

  • An understanding of managerial techniques such as budget preparation, performance appraisal, salary administration, planning and scheduling, cost control, plant equipment and processes is necessary.

  • Human relations skills acquired through the experience of previous supervision is extremely beneficial. Some of these skills can be developed on the job.

  • Minimum 5 years in supervision of instrument, control and electrical personnel.
