State of Minnesota Reading & Student Success Center Coordinator in White Bear Lake, Minnesota

Job Summary Job Summary Position Purpose: This position exists to assist all Century students across the disciplines with improving their reading and study skills. The incumbent in this position will provide specific assistance, instruction, and support for Reading and Student Success students. They will be a course of knowledge and provide materials to aid students in learning, as well as coordinate and supervise the operation of the Reading & Student Success Center. Position Responsibilities: * Provide assistance and instruction to students with coursework. * Administer and proctor Placement Appeals Tests and make-up tests for students in Reading/Student Success classes, as appropriate. * Complete training and maintain certification in Excellent Reading in order to assist students in RDNG 0930. * Under the direction of instructors, work with students on individual projects. * Conduct group demonstrations, discussions, and workshops on learning strategies to supplement classroom work, if needed. * Prepare reports on student usage of the Reading and Student Success Center. * Interview, hire, and supervise student workers for the center. * Perform various library tasks. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * Associate or higher degree in Study Skills or related field (i.e. Reading, Writing, Developmental Education, Adult Education or Para Educator) AND * 1 academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in Study Skills or related field at the high school level or above , OR * An equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor Degree in field in Study Skills, Reading, Education or related field. * Understanding of reading and study skills methods. * Background knowledge and experience in Read Right * At least three (3) years teaching/working experience in a college setting with adult and developmental learners and/or professional experience in Academic Affairs or Student Services. * Computer skills including e-learning, information literacy, and Microsoft Office Suite. * Advanced human relation skills including excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Teaching and working experience in a college setting with demonstrated interest in the field of reading/study skills (i.e. enrollment in graduate courses, membership in professional organizations, and attending conferences.) * Ability to maintain confidentiality. * Ability to handle complaints, multi-task and interest in positive problem solving is preferred. * Strong interpersonal skills. * Effective organizational skills. * Ability to build relationships with students and colleagues. * Must be flexible and adaptable as well as be able to deal with complex, procedural structure and repetition while remaining enthusiastic and motivational with developmental students. * Knowledge of State, MinnState and Century College policies and procedures is also preferred. * The applicant (the employee) should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
