State of Minnesota General Maintenance Worker in White Bear Lake, Minnesota

Job Summary Job Summary * To clean areas of the college so that a safe, healthy and attractive learning environment is available. * To lock and unlock rooms and doors as assigned so that security is maintained. * To report any, and all safety hazards so that a safe environment will be maintained. * Complete with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) as well as, work as a member of a team with other Facilities Services employees. * Other duties as assigned so that the facilities are maintained. This includes snow removal that may involve shoveling, salting, sanding and operating plow and truck, blower, broom and sander. Take downs and set-ups, strip and wax floors during summer break as needed. * Must be able to drive campus vehicles. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: * Different types of flooring/floor covering enough to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment. * Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps enough to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely. * Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance enough to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs. Ability to: * Follow simple oral and written instructions. * Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction. * Keep simple records. * Physical health and endurance enough to perform the following work functions: * standing, walking, pulling, pushing, simple and firm grasping, stooping, crouching, squatting, using field of vision, depth perception, lifting above waist to chest, lifting below waist, reaching, carrying, pushing, repetitive foot and arm motion, twisting/pivoting, climbing, fine manipulation). * Lift 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects - such as 50-pound bags. * walk or stand for a significant portion of the work shift. * Must possess a current/valid driver's license with a good or acceptable driving record. This is required in order to drive campus vehicles. Preferred Qualifications * Operate and make minor repairs to simple maintenance equipment. * Previous maintenance/cleaning experience. * Previous experience with snow removal including spreading chloride and operating powered snow removal equipment is preferred. * The applicant (the employee) should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations. * Human relations skills enough to work cooperatively and efficiently with coworkers, college staff, students and the general public.
