Citizens Credit and Colleague Development Manager in Westwood, Massachusetts

Role Overview & Purpose:

The Credit and Colleague Development Manager will serve as a key strategic leader within the business banking organization, focusing on translating business strategies into actionable sales behaviors. This role will ensure that both existing and new colleagues possess the necessary skills and confidence to excel in their roles. Additionally, this role will actively lead the team of Credit Product Managers in Business banking who partner with Market Managers, Relationship Managers, Underwriters, Portfolio Managers, and Credit Officers to deliver a world class end-to-end credit experience for our clients.

The manager will also collaborate closely with the Learning and Development (L&D) team to provide strategic guidance and support the creation of effective learning paths. They will define business requirements, refine content, and consult on delivery and outcomes. The position is designed to elevate the credit competencies, leadership capabilities, and overall development of Relationship Managers (RMs) and their leaders, driving a cultural transformation toward continuous learning and mentoring that supports business growth.

This role is instrumental in ensuring that business banking colleagues are equipped with the skills and mindset needed to succeed. By focusing on the strategic alignment of business objectives with sales behaviors and fostering a culture of mentorship, the Credit and Colleague Development Manager will drive stronger business performance and contribute to the long-term success of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Program Design and Collaboration:

    • Assess the training and development needs of RMs and their leaders across key competency areas, with a focus on credit skills, leadership, and business acumen.

    • Collaborate with the Leadership and Development team to co-create a comprehensive continuous learning curriculum, ensuring it aligns with business needs and reinforces critical behaviors and skills.

    • Provide subject matter expertise in refining and tailoring learning content, ensuring relevance to the varying complexities of different business banking segments (e.g., Virtual RM, RM1, RM2).

    • Work closely with the Leadership and Development team to translate these strategies into engaging, multi-modal learning experiences, including instructor-led training, eLearning, simulations, coaching, and communities of practice.

    • Serve as the business advocate during the rollout and adoption of these programs, ensuring high levels of engagement, completion, and application in daily work.

    • Champion a continuous learning mindset within the sales organization, encouraging the development of mentoring practices and ongoing learning in both technical and soft skills.

  2. Facilitate Credit Development Programs

    • Serve as business owner for various credit programs including identification of participants, facilitators and content required to execute the program as designed.

    • Actively engage and lead various components of the development programs, leveraging subject matter expertise to augment facilitation provided by Learning and Development or other teams to improve engagement and provide relevant context to complicated scenarios

    • Review content objectives to ensure they remain current with the evolving needs of the business and make necessary adjustments to ensure the program delivers the outcomes required to equip sales colleagues with acumen suitable for the credit scenarios they will likely encounter.

    • Identify and qualify internal and external partners required to participate in facilitating components of the credit program and ensure capacity and alignment with demands of the program schedule

    • Partner with Learning and Development team and Sales Leaders to ensure colleagues successfully complete scheduled development

  3. Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement:

    • Monitor and measure the impact of credit development and continuous learning initiatives through data tracking and analysis.

    • Provide feedback and insights to the Leadership and Development team for iterative improvements based on performance data, feedback, and changing business needs.

    • Act as a strategic advisor to business leadership, offering insights on credit development, talent management, and learning strategies that drive business outcomes.

    • Encourage and enable managers to take an active role in mentoring, coaching, and developing their team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and performance growth.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience: 10+ years of experience in business banking, with a strong background in credit, sales, and business development. Experience in translating business strategies into sales behaviors is essential. A background in sales enablement, and/or talent development within the financial services or banking industry is preferred.

  • Credit Expertise: Deep understanding of credit fundamentals, risk assessment, and the complexity of credit needs in different business banking segments. This candidate should have experience with multiple credit scenarios and be able to teach others the fundamental disciplines required to review a wide variety of credit requests.

  • Learning and Development Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Learning and Development teams, providing business insights that enhance program design and delivery.

  • Coaching and Facilitation: Strong skills in coaching, facilitation, and driving behavior change and skill development.

  • Cultural Transformation: Experience in leading cultural transformation initiatives that foster a continuous learning mindset and mentoring culture.

  • Data-Driven: A mindset focused on measuring program impact and using data to drive continuous improvement.

  • Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills, with the ability to influence and drive strategic initiatives.

Hours & Work Schedule

  • Hours per Week: 40

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM
