The Maintenance Mechanic Performs skilled trade work including the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, service and repair of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing and structural systems on the West Haven Campus of the University of New Haven. This includes general maintenance projects and event support for various athletic, student, and administrative activities. You will: Performs skilled trade work including the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, monitoring, service and repair of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing and structural systems. Interpret building and safety codes, drawings, blue prints, schematics and diagrams. Monitor operating status of Campus equipment, as necessary, both visually and using the Building Management System and respond to alarms. Respond to Facilities Department issues of all nature and have the insight to identify the need for additional resources and take corrective action as needed. Identify, locate and diagnose equipment and building system malfunctions and identify the root cause of issues and take independent action to resolve and perform required repairs using hand and power tools. Capable of working independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision, in performing the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and controls equipment in compliance of all building, fire, and other regulatory codes. Communicate and document the status of assigned work orders and projects. Develop and perform preventative maintenance on University buildings, equipment and tools. Must follow all applicable safety rules and guidelines and understand proper use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Work scheduled overtime, special events, and be on call for emergencies if required. Assure the proper operation of a wide variety of mechanical machines and devices including but not limited to motors, engines, compressors, fans, pumps, and various other machines, and mechanical devises. Shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas as needed. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities, including but not limited to walking, bending, standing, stooping, stretching, climbing stairs and ladders. Incumbent must be able to lift and or move equipment that may weigh up to 100 pounds. This position is considered essential. Essential personnel are required to report to work even if the University suspends normal operations and classes and during inclement weather conditions. You need: A minimum of two (2) years of general maintenance mechanic work experience. Must be able to drive and hold a valid CT state driver?s license. Must be able to use all necessary tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner. Perform duties in adherence to training standards and supervisory directives. Must have strong working knowledge of all types of residential and commercial building systems and equipment. Effectively communicate in English both oral and written. Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets, instructions, manuals, signs, posters and product label. Must be able to maintain acceptable work habits including but not limited to punctuality and regular and reliable attendance. Must work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. Must be able to work independently and in a collaborative manner with peers. Must have superior customer service skills and ability to respond in a professional, courteous, timely and effective manner to internal and external customers.
