The Acting Associate Dean of the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences (HCLC) reports directly to the Interim Dean of the HCLC and is responsible for most of the College's operational processes and procedures, including day-to-day operations of the Dean's Office, development and administration of the budget, space utilization and facilities, full-time and adjunct faculty workloads, student queries above the department level, curricular processes, course and program assessment, and relevant accreditation oversight. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Interim Dean of the HCLC supervises the Acting Associate Dean. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: At the direction of the Interim Dean, the Acting Associate Dean supervises all Chairs, Directors, Coordinators and Heads of the Academic Units within the HCLC. This position involves significant leadership responsibilities for strategic management of college activities, decision-making, and policy-setting. The Acting Associate Dean in conjunction with the Interim Dean is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty in a collaborative working environment. The primary role of the Acting Associate Dean is to ensure that students at the University have a superior academic experience. To meet that role the Acting Associate Dean will work with the Assistant Deans to address conflicts and problems that may arise for students and communicate with Student Services personnel. The Acting Associate Dean role will begin immediately upon decision (or at a mutually agreeable starting date), and the individual selected for this role will serve as Acting Associate Dean 2024-25 academic year. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Faculty Workload: Oversees faculty with department chairs (and, as needed, directors, coordinators and heads of academic units) to ensure that faculty workloads are appropriate, that teaching and assigned time or other contractual obligations are met and that contractual loads and assignments comply with the Provost's Compensation Guidelines; monitors Teaching & Academic Assignment documentation; assembles and maintains data on faculty workload on a college basis with input from departments and programs; maintains data on Assigned Time across the College. Adjunct Faculty and Practitioners-in-Residence : Oversees adjunct faculty and PIR contracts and salary recommendations; approves assignments; monitors and confirms degree verification processes; and is responsible for classification of candidates according to the Provost's Compensation Guidelines. Faculty Searches: Works with departments on the faculty search process and helps facilitate the searches. Course Scheduling and Classroom Economics : Works with the Chairs to promote collaboration when appropriate and optimize the use of classroom and research space, as well as other faculty resources. Responsible for increasing efficiencies in classroom economics; monitors class sizes and advocates for appropriate allocation of classrooms to the College. Scholarship & Professional Development : Informs College faculty of scholarship and professional development opportunities; and facilitates faculty access to relevant scholarship opportunities, and professional development. Provides and supports academic leadership and collaborates in the development of programs to enhance teaching, research, and creative activity. Undergraduate Admissions, Recruitment, and Retention: Support the work of the college and Assistant Deans, department chairs, directors, coordinators and heads of academic units, the Vice President for Enrollment management, and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to oversee and assist in the coordination undergraduate admissions. Assists the Interim Dean, Assistant Dean, chairs, directors, coordinators, and heads of academic units with their recruitment and retention activities (e.g. SOAR; Open Houses; Accepted Student Days; Orientations; Yield Events, etc.). Graduate Admissions : Works with Graduate Program Coordinators, Vice President for Enrollment management, and the Office of Graduate Admissions to oversee and assist in the coordination of graduate admissions. Experiential Education: Works collaboratively with Study Abroad Office, Career Development Center, and the Academic Service Learning staff to promote and facilitate experiential education opportunities, student internships, study abroad and service learning opportunities relevant to students in the College. International Programs : Assists with the development and oversight of contractual and other agreements supporting study abroad activities within the HCLC; oversees visiting foreign faculty members in the College in concert with respective chairs, directors, coordinators and heads of academic units; oversees recruitment efforts concerning foreign exchange students. Course and Program Assessment : Oversees course and program assessment activities working with chairs, directors, coordinators and heads of academic units who are responsible for working with their faculty members in creating the portfolio of direct and indirect assessment vehicles, data collection, analysis, and report delivery. Responsible for guiding all assessment procedures and monitoring the achievement of student learning outcomes. Accreditation: Responsible for overseeing the processes that College departments, schools and other academic units have in place relevant assessment an evaluation processes to support continuous quality improvements within the departments, schools, and other units in the College. Resource Management : Monitors the allocation of fiscal and other resources throughout the College. Communicates department, school, program and other academic resource needs to the Interim Dean and advocates for appropriate resourcing of academic and related programs and initiatives. Data Management : Works with Institutional Research to oversee the maintenance and management of data for the College. Works with chairs and coordinators to share relevant data for decision making purposes. External Initiatives : Assists the Interim Dean, chairs, directors, coordinators and heads of academic units and faculty, as appropriate, by facilitating the preparation of grant, contracts, and implementation of programs. Teaching : Although generally not expected of the Acting Associate Dean, he or she may also teach as a secondary function of the position. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS Doctoral Degree or terminal degree in a discipline relevant to the College. Tenured faculty member. Demonstrated leadership, management, human relations and communication skills. Experience in an administrative position. Significant administration experience (5 years preferred). Strong background in public service Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and effectively manage time Principled leadership and attention to details of finance, participation, and planning Ability to communicate & collaborate with and direct Department Chairs, faculty members, and students Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond quickly to the changing needs of the organization and its internal and external constituents Applications should include a curriculum vitae, and a list of three references noting the relationship to the candidate and contact information.
