Job Purpose and Impact

The Regional Merchandising Leader will be responsible for cash commodity trading positions for designated commodities in the region and will serve as a member of the regional leadership team. In this role, you will ensure alignment with regional business and product line objectives and will oversee the development of regional game plans utilizing appropriate regional and product line resources. You will be accountable for execution and the resulting profit and loss and will work in collaboration with the balance of the regional leadership team to develop and execute the broader regional business strategy, including capital and other projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish short and long term merchandising strategies, game plans, margin structure and objectives for the region, overseeing high volume commodity trading to ensure the overall success of the region, in alignment with the functional strategy of the overall business product line.

  • Collaborate with the cross regional and product line stakeholders to develop and deploy the short and long term business plans including revenue projections and capital projects to ensure strategic objections and goals are met.

  • Foster the relationships between the trading and merchandising, plant operations and origination teams and the accounting, finance, risk management and credit departments.

  • Identify and provide leadership and technical training needs to raise the efficiency and execution capacity of the team, developing the planning strategy to ensure the people are in place for both the short and long term needs of the group and the enterprise.

  • Monitor and manage commodity contract exposure, aggregated by customer and the merchant contract control process to ensure customer credit limits are maintained, collaborating with the sales and legal teams and customers to resolve contract disputes or potential contract defaults.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Provide strategic leadership, development and talent management activities for direct reports and their organizations, which may include forecasting resource needs, recruiting, hiring, performance management, training and budgeting. You will also collaborate with managers and supervisors in your organization to ensure staff selections align with current and future needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of commodity trading rules and regulations

  • Ability to handle commodity margins and an understanding of commodity marketing alternatives

  • Confirmed track record providing strategic and successful business plans

  • Minimum of eight years of related work experience, five years of supervisory experience
