We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

Job Summary

Dominion is currently seeking a Software Systems Engineer Specialist to join our team of IT professionals supporting the Nuclear Business Unit. This position will be located at Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT.

This role serves as a technical expert in one or more areas of information technology. Participates in major projects and resolves highly complex application or infrastructure issues. May serve as team leader for infrastructure or technical projects. Maintains expertise in one or more specialized areas, including application packages, testing, risk management, change management, or other IT products/tools.

Participates in the establishment of technical standards for IT and implements them within a workgroup or team. Leads quality assurance reviews to improve the quality of IT deliverables and to ensure adherence to applicable standards. Serves as the communications channel between an ITBA group and the other infrastructure and enterprise groups within IT or may be the primary communications link with an outside provider of IT applications, products, or services. Resolves operational or performance problems by collaborating with required experts or teams within and outside of Dominion.

  1. Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, principles, practices, and procedures to carry out all aspects of the job.

  2. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in planning, organizing and conducting work assignments.

  3. May receive instructions and guidance on unusual or complex problems and knows when to get others involved.

  4. Effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches encountered in work assignments.

  5. Performs maintenance on Information Technology systems as assigned.

Additional information:

  • Limited overnight travel.

  • Overtime and alternate work schedules during planned refueling outages.

  • Infrequent overtime to address emergent station issues.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

7+ years of related IT experience.

  • Systems programming experience.

  • Strong experience in reading and understanding source code.

  • Capable of reviewing a functional specification and interpret requirements into C/C+ computer language.

  • Prepare and/or update documentation detailing software function and test plan.

  • Able to develop and test in a controlled lab environment prior to implementing on production equipment and maintain code history and disaster recovery plan.

  • Desired operating system experience includes Windows, Unix and/or Linux.

  • Develop, maintain and support database, archive and system interfaces between various applications.

  • Knowledge or experience with networks, firewalls, and interfaces such as ODBC, PI, OPC, eDNA, MODBUS, and data acquisition equipment.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the assigned duties within the realm of responsibility.

  • Must possess skills to interface with various departments, internal and external customer groups to perform necessary work

  • Possesses an awareness of customer requirements with emphasis on major initiatives.

  • Must be able to set priorities and demonstrate timely and effective response to customer and team member needs.

  • Must have an understanding of methods and processes of the business units within the realm of responsibility.

  • Able to respond effectively to diverse demands.

  • Ability to respond effectively and timely to the needs and requirements of the business units.

  • Must provide personal availability and maintain rotation on call status.

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of Access, Oracle, or SQL is a plus.

  • Any experience with General Electric, Ovation or another distributed control system or PLC is a strong plus.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics.
