Long Description

MILITARY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Dominion Energy Military Fellowship Program is a corporate internship which aligns with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program. SkillBridge authorization allows eligible servicemembers with command approval to participate in corporate internships as their place of duty up to 180 days prior to separation. Dominion Energy Military Fellowship positions align with the company’s workforce needs and Military Fellows may be considered for full-time opportunities upon successful completion of their fellowship.

Servicemember Requirements

To enroll in a corporate internship while still on active duty, the servicemember must be able to meet eligibility compliance and receive command approval. Once an internship offer has been extended, the servicemember may proceed in routing a completed program application for command awareness and approval. The internship cannot commence until you are 180 days or less from your separation date (i.e., EAOS, EAS).

  • Have met all instructional criteria outlined in DODI 1322.29, and relevant Service instructions

  • Obtain command approval to participate (i.e., signature required on Intern Application)

  • Provide final notification of command approval to the Employer

Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s Millstone Nuclear Power Station has Military Fellowship positions available which align to our Nuclear Plant Equipment Operators. The Military Fellowship program is intended to support Millstone’s long-term staffing needs by providing participants a valuable experience that can lead to fulltime employment upon separation from the military. This work experience may be up to 180 days, as agreed upon by the selected servicemember and approved by their military command.

This is a non-union job which is to be based at Millstone Nuclear Power Station.

The Nuclear Plant Equipment Operator (PEO) is an entry level position into the Control Room, and individuals in this title are expected to enter the Control Operator licensing program when selected. Responsible for performing work associated with the operation of various plant equipment. Locally, starts up, operates, inspects, and shuts down primary radwaste and secondary plant systems and associated/related components. Performs or assists with scheduled, operational tests on protective devices and safety systems, filter pre-coating operations, cleans water strainers, oil strainers and condensers and changes cartridge filters. Reads meters, gauges, thermometers, and instruments on auxiliary equipment, makes adjustments to obtain efficient operations, and records readings as required. Inspects outdoor transformer equipment, including deluge system, service switchgear and operating M-G sets and rectifiers, reporting abnormal conditions. Participates in self-assessments and prompt adequate resolution of identified department issues. Trains for and, as needed, performs duties as a site fire brigade responder. Responsible for receiving, informing, and giving information in a timely manner related to issues such as safe work practices, work schedules or delays, wasted resources, errors not readily apparent or easy to detect, and non-compliance to procedures, and work processes or procedures that could improve performance or reduce costs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Eligible military servicemembers must have a minimum rank of E-5

  • Preferred Candidates will have a rank of E-6 or higher

  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of power plant experience, preferably with a nuclear power plant

  • Preferred candidates will have successfully completed the Naval Nuclear Propulsion training program and possess 4+ years of hands-on experience in the fleet one of the following disciplines: EM, MM, ET or ELT

  • Must be qualified and able to perform the responsibilities and tasks of the position to accurately read, interpret, and comply with company/department procedures, provide attention to detail, and minimize errors.

  • Thorough knowledge of operation of pumps, valves, motors, and other power plant equipment.

  • A basic knowledge of nuclear power plant systems and their operation, and health physics procedures.

  • Ability to diagnose problems in power plant equipment, write Maintenance Requests for repairs

  • Able to work a rotating shift schedule.

  • Conversion to a fulltime Plant Equipment Operator role requires Candidates pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) test

  • Conversion to a fulltime Plant Equipment Operator role requires participation in the station’s Fire Brigade. Participation in the Fire Brigade requires Candidates pass a physical fitness which includes a vision test.
