Job Summary

Dominion Energy is currently seeking experienced engineers for the Mechanical Systems Engineering Groups at the Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT. There are three positions available. Position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The primary area of focus will be that of a secondary or primary plant systems engineer in support of an operating nuclear power plant. Systems for which the candidate may be responsible over time include Reactor Coolant System, Emergency Core Cooling, Main Steam, Condensate, Feedwater, Feedwater Heaters/Vents/Drains, Condensate Polishing, Turbine, Turbine Generator mechanical systems and other miscellaneous secondary support systems.

Specific duties include:

  • The development and implementation of system monitoring and trending plans to ensure system health

  • Development of short and long term plans to maintain and improve the system reliability

  • Development and review of engineering technical evaluations and calculations supporting system operation

  • Additional duties include providing support of system functional performance testing as well as both planned and emergent maintenance

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Candidates will be expected to possess and further develop familiarity with their assigned area of responsibility. Training will be provided as appropriate to advance the candidate’s current knowledge and skills in their assigned area, as well as nuclear power plant operation.

Engineer II candidates will be expected to lead small, cross-functional groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability. They are expected to be able to work with minimal supervisor direction.

Engineer III candidates will be expected to lead larger, multi-discipline groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability. They are expected to be able to work independently on assigned tasks. This specific position may lead special efforts to improve and sustain equipment reliability.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Engineer II - 3+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals;

  • Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position;

  • Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives;

  • Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management;

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);

  • Planning, organizational and project management skills;

  • Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills;

  • Effective decision making skills;

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment;

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Note: A partial year of work experience of 6 months or greater will count as one year toward the required years of experience. A Master's degree will count as one year toward the years of experience.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E-3, W1, or O1, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above are encouraged to apply.

Education Requirements

Preferred Disciplines: Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Marine Systems Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technologyand a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Depending on functional responsibilities and location of position must review ANS 3.1 12/79, ANSI N18.1-1971 or ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993 and DOM-QA-1 as appropriate.
