National Grid is hiring a Stakeholder Engagement - Programme Manager as part of our Stakeholder Management and Insight Function. This position can be located in Warwick or London.

Our commitment to stakeholders as we work towards meeting the UK's Net Zero target requires effective management of key relationships across various disciplines and specialisms within National Grid (NG). We seek an organized, proactive individual who can adapt their approach based on the audience, ensuring clear communication channels and acting as a trusted point of contact. This role will facilitate connections between teams, promoting a holistic and collaborative working approach at all levels. Balancing the needs of both National Grid and stakeholders' organizations is crucial to maximize opportunities and minimize risks. The stakeholders involved span multiple NG Business Units or Directorates and may hold different relationships as connecting customers or network developers. Proactive relationship management, tailored engagement, and the development and maintenance of trust and advocacy are essential in this position.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to develop and implement a stakeholder/partner strategy and ongoing engagement program to integrate industry partner organizations and local government institutions (such as DNOs and large local authority groups, Net Zero partnerships) into our regional and site planning processes. The goal is to foster collaboration and ensure that their interests are embedded in our everyday practices.

The role will establish effective working relationships between NGET, DNOs, local government institutions, and the Regional Energy Strategy Planning (RESP) role within NESO. This will maximize opportunities and mitigate potential barriers to the development and delivery of our Transmission network plans. The strategy will have clear goals and outcomes, and the role will lead and facilitate the necessary actions in collaboration with senior NGET relationship owners.

Key Responsibilities/What you'll do

  • Implementing a transparent and proactive engagement strategy with clear outcomes.

  • Leading an ongoing engagement program with defined responsibilities across NGET.

  • Advocating for industry and regional stakeholders, ensuring their needs and views are considered in our processes and decisions.

  • Incorporating the use of modern frameworks, systems, and data capture protocols to track, share, and learn from engagement activities.

  • Meeting stakeholder engagement and community relations requirements for Transmission infrastructure projects, including forming partnerships for data sharing and collaboration.

  • Be the core point of contact for these key stakeholders in terms of their breadth of interest in NGET plans and activity

  • Chair cross sector/cross discipline workshops

  • Act as a subject matter expert on the background, news and direction of these key stakeholders and advisor to support specific business leads in terms of communications and supply of intel briefings

About you

  • Stakeholder Management

  • Strong strategic thinking coupled with the ability to identify and manage key stakeholder relationships at all levels to support excellence in delivery.

  • Excellent organisational, planning, and coordination skills.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including ability to appropriately adapt the message to different audiences

  • Significant experience presenting insights and recommendations to a variety of audiences both verbally and written

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Ability to chair diverse, technical workshops and hold participants of all levels to account for actions agreed

  • Technical

  • Experience of energy sector , engineering, electricity transmission an advantage

  • Translate regulatory stakeholder needs into clear work packages and execute packages to evidence engineering outcomes.

  • General

  • Proactive, curious and able to comfortably work autonomously, as part of a broader team/network, or leading a network/team on projects

  • Excellent time-management skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Creates and promotes an environment which strives for continuous improvement and the implementation of best practice.

  • Able to deal with the complexity of the energy sector and understand the regulatory landscape

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – £70,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
