National Grid Senior Transmission Asset Ratings Engineer in Warwick, United Kingdom

About the role

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK. The electricity we provide gets the nation to work, powers schools and brings energy to life. Our energy network connects the nation, so it’s essential that it’s continually evolving, advancing and improving. In NGET we are passionate about both operating our network safely and providing highly reliable quality of supply for our customers.

All assets connected to our transmission system are thermally rated to ensure that we can safely operate the network.

As Senior Transmission Asset Ratings Engineer you will manage and maintain the thermal rating and circuit data, from project commissioning through to asset replacement, taking a leading role in the development of the tools required to publish this data. You’ll be responsible for the integrity of all the data held within the Thermal Ratings Database, continually updating when new equipment is added, or an upgrade takes place.

You’ll develop and maintain efficient and documented processes in order to offer a range of ratings services supported by expert advice and also use your expertise to support and develop others.

You will contribute subject matter expertise to both internal and external stakeholders using industry-wide innovation, research and development to continually improve and refine NGET's understanding of asset ratings, and continuously improve our ratings assessment techniques.

This role is based out of our offices in Warwick, and we would ideally like to see you there 2-3 days per week. This can be combined with hybrid working from home.

What you'll need

Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering, numeric or science-based subject, or possessing equivalent skills or experience, you’ll have strong numerical, analytical and MS Excel skills, and be capable of utilising ratings assessment tools.

You’ll be a self-starter with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You’ll have experience and knowledge of engineering and asset management, in particular, a specialism in the capabilities of assets and their limitations, would be desirable for this role.

Stakeholder management skills are key, as is the ability to discuss and present detailed technical information in a way understandable to a non-expert. In addition, you’ll have the ability to prioritise your workload, managing requests for guidance from multiple stakeholders.
