National Grid Quantity Surveyor Higher Apprentice in Warwick, United Kingdom
About the role
This role is based within our Strategic Infrastructure Team. Our new Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit has been set up to deliver 17 new major projects in the UK, as well as other strategic projects to help us deliver on our net zero ambitions and help the UK Government meet its target of 50GW of renewable energy by 2030.
Our aim is to help the UK switch to clean energy and make sure our electricity network is fit for the future; carrying more clean, secure energy from where it’s generated to where you need it. In this role you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this.
Our three-year programme offers structured on-the-job training and real responsibility from day one. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, receive ongoing support from skilled mentors, and gain exposure to various areas of our business. The programme is designed to develop your skills and knowledge, providing you with the resources, guidance, and opportunities needed to grow and excel in your role.
Things to know about your scheme:
Successful completion of your 36-month apprenticeship with National Grid results in achieving a nationally recognised accredited qualification, Construction Quantity Surveying Technician (Level 4)
85% of your training programme will be on job learning, you’ll need to create a portfolio of evidence throughout your programme as part of your ‘end point assessment’.
About the role Quantity Surveyor
As a Higher Apprentice in our Strategic Infrastructure team, you’ll gain experience in all aspects of health and safety management, quality management, collaborating with contractors, and programme management including:
Responsibility for the commercial management of subcontract packages
Supporting the procurement of subcontract packages and materials
Supporting the commercial team, including administering client and subcontract changes
Analysing and feeding into the risk and opportunity reporting
Mitigating risks and protecting project margins
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

This role can be based across the UK. Locations include:
Warwick
Bishop Auckland
Lackenby
Norton RC
West Boldon
Crossgates House (Leeds)
Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, flexibility to travel will be required within this role. This means you will need to have a valid full UK Driving License at time of application. This will be verified at your assessment centre should you be successful.
About you
3 A levels at grade A-C including Maths or Physics or equivalent (Level 3 in an Engineering or Construction discipline grade Merit or higher eg National Certificate in Engineering etc).
GCSE in Maths and English Language grade 5 or higher.
Must have or be working towards a full UK driving licence.
