Job Purpose

Working in Performance in Development, assisting in the development and delivery of solutions for our Strategic Leadership team including leading the successful delivery of the senior leadership ‘Next Generation’ programme, and supporting the enterprise-wide Talent Management process across National Grid. This is a varied role that requires a lean into leadership development and Talent Management best practice; event planning and management; external and internal stakeholder relationships; project management; comms; and performance measurement and evaluation. The role requires an individual who can work with overlapping complexities, differing geographical requirements, and a future-fit approach to talent, performance and development.

Key broad accountabilities:

  • Provide input and support to the Global Talent manager to ensure all global talent management frameworks, processes and tools are fit for purpose for local deployment. Take the lead for the design, development and deployment of any regional/functional specific tools which support the local approach ensuring they are complementary and supportive of global approaches. Ensure best practice is shared across colleagues.

  • Work with the Global Talent Manager to help inform the Executive Committee talent discussions as well as contributing to the development of local and group wide talent board papers, providing key insights into local talent challenges and priorities. Assist in the preparation for key talent and leadership meetings (SLG offsites, Global Talent Reviews, etc.)

  • Conduct research and analysis and prepare best practice guidance on talent and leadership projects and processes.

  • Develop, maintain and embed talent and leadership development tools and processes; work with stakeholders (e.g. HR Technology, People Partners, procurement) to ensure new solutions fit with the People Strategy.

  • Collaborate with HR teams and leaders to provide analysis and guidance on leadership solutions for the Strategic Leadership Group around each of our SLG essentials. Generate ideas, identify and propose solutions to meet business needs in the talent and leadership space and support the People Partners with the implementation of the solutions in their business areas..

  • Ensure that the annual talent cycle is successfully delivered across National Grid, overseeing and supporting local People Partner teams to ensure they deliver in a timely and effective manner. Quality assure the design and launch of consistent local talent communications across National Grid aligning with key global messaging

  • Working with Executive teams and CPO’s to identify talented senior leaders, create scenarios and support in managing their moves and create robust succession plans for all roles.

  • Work in partnership with People Partners and managers to ensure newly recruited or promoted leaders and those transitioning into key positions are supported in doing so to accelerate their performance. Work with People Partners to ensure you have a view of talent across the organisation and work together to facilitate effective cross-business talent mobility

  • Drawing on data and insights, support the People Partner teams to identify talent challenges and prioritise activity in light of these. Work with the Global Process and Performance Data and Analytics team to develop meaningful insights around the talent agenda.

What you'll do

  • Design - You will be responsible for understanding the intricacies of the design and be able to flex the future design as required to support the leadership development to meet participants where they’re at.

  • Stakeholder Management

  • Comms & Branding - Lead on designing and producing comms for all elements of the programme including and not limited to: info packs; virtual presentations and updates; emails; WhatsApp updates; meetings and calls.

  • Event Planning - L eading the planning and organisation of all residential connect points throughout the programme, with the support of the Leadership Events Planner.

  • Virtual Sessions Planning

  • Finances and Invoicing

  • Reporting, Tracking and Evaluation

  • Tracking all programme participant attendance – from logging coaching set up calls and time spent on coaching sessions, through to time spent at residential connect points and at virtual sessions.

  • Leading on the implementation of measures for the programme. Including, and not limited to: understanding SLG Essentials and how they inform the programme ; Grid Voice results; 360 designed for the programme; and ensuring individual development plans are robust.

What you'll have

  • Big-picture focus coupled with a strong attention to detail. This role constantly moves rapidly between a strategic, big-picture viewpoint through to being involved in the fine details of programmes and deliverables.

  • You’ll be a natural energiser who can bring groups together and lead calls, conversations and discussions.

  • Strong communicator, able to listen critically and translate complex ideas for a wide-range of stakeholders, combined with an ability to work well with others and build relationships across the team, the People function and the business, and a willingness to both give and receive constructive feedback

  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity. There are a number of overlapping complexities within the Next Generation programme. As this programme is designed to meet leaders where they’re at, and iterate to keep up with wider leadership requirements, there will often be ambiguity to handle.

  • Proactivity and tenacity. Take the lead with decisions and hold others to account to ensure that all activities are completed in a way that makes sense across the programme and evolving requirements.

  • Strong customer-service focus throughout all work activities, building credibility to be seen to be delivering as a trusted partner to all stakeholders.

  • A strong interest in leadership development to be able to lean in and join the dots with emergent knowledge/challenges/opportunities and raise these with the key programme stakeholders as required.

  • A learning mind-set, with a willingness to ‘muck in’ on multiple topics across the talent sphere and a comfort with working in rapidly changing environments with short turnaround schedules

  • Demonstrated problem-solving experience; able to break subjects down logically, analyse cause and effect, and generate well-reasoned solutions; and able to deploy a results-focused mindset

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – £70,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
