National Grid Finance Analyst - Finance Business Partner in Warwick, United Kingdom

Job Purpose

We’re looking for passionate 3x Finance Analyst - Finance Business Partner in the Electricity Transmission (ET) Finance team to support all the business partnering activities within the different ET areas.

You will be part of the CFO function that supports the Electricity Transmission business where we maintain the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. We take electricity generated from windfarms and other power sources and transport it through our network of pylons, overhead lines, cables, and substations. It then goes on to separate lower voltage local distribution networks, which connect directly to homes and businesses. The CFO function is critical to delivering our ambitions in ET, and this role plays a key part in setting financial clarity and insights to support strong performance management, providing financial business partnering to a key area of the National Grid business.

Our team provides both business and financial leadership, working across the ET business to ensure business leaders understand their financial performance in the context of our regulatory framework and the commitments we have made to our shareholders. We support the business to find opportunities to embed efficiencies that drive value for shareholders and consumers, and we provide insight and challenge where we see risks to performance.

What You'll Do

  • Support the FBPs with coordination and consolidation of business plan submissions for your partnered Business Unit, ensuring plans are assured and challenged effectively, and are underpinned by robust business-owned assumptions.

  • Work closely with the business to develop, review and challenge robust justification and Cost Benefit Analysis for key projects.

  • Provide interpretation of key financial metrics so that the ET business understands what’s critical to its performance.

  • Build effective relationships with key business stakeholders, Regulation and across the wider CFO teams to trigger and deliver business improvements that enhance commercial performance.

  • Be the link between the business and Finance, ensuring all the right relationships are leveraged to deliver the best outcome.

  • Develop analysis and propose solutions to complex commercial scenarios, considering commercial and business risks alongside the broader strategic commitments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial models and evaluate the financial impact of various initiatives, projects, and operational changes.

  • Develop strong, collaborative working relationships across teams, functions, and levels.

  • Apply analytical skills, judgement, attention to detail, and creativity to effectively solve problems.

  • Navigate ambiguity, take initiative, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholder groups.

  • Pivot to address ad hoc requests as they arise in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Proactively build relationships and drive accountability.

What You'll Have

  • Qualified Accountant or Part Qualified, (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA) with planning, forecasting and budgeting experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate, iterate, and influence.

  • Ability to thrive in a matrix type environment.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Inquisitive and self-starter.

  • Ability to synthesize large datasets and develop and/or pressure test comprehensive analysis to inform the business and drive decisions.

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

  • Experience with SAP, SAC, Alteryx, PowerBI a plus.

  • Financial modelling, data consolidation, data analysis (MS Excel) experience.

  • Planning, forecasting, and budgeting knowledge
