About the role

Contracts and Commercial Manager - 12 month Fixed Term Contract

National Grid Interconnectors (https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-ventures/interconnectors-connecting-cleaner-future) , part of National Grid Ventures, is at the heart of the energy transition, supporting the connection of electricity grids between Great Britain and other countries, allowing the sharing of greener, more affordable power. We are proud to be a growing, international team and we all have a passion to do our best for our customers, the planet and each other.

As a Contracts and Commercial Manager, you'll have the opportunity to shape the commercial contracting strategy for our interconnectors business. You’ll be the key commercial contact for our HVDC Engineering Team (such as converters, cables and HV assets) and provide additional support across Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Systems and Systems teams on best practice in Contract Management.

As part of the role, you'll support the development of our contract management maturity as we look to improve how we manage our supply chain across our portfolio, working on a wide range of inter-team and business improvement projects. You'll also audit our supply chain to ensure their compliance with their contractual obligations.

We’d hope to see you in the Warwick office two days per week and you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

Key accountabilities

  • Support managing the business budget including risk & contingencies across projects.

  • Act as the lead commercial representative on any spot tenders or framework awards as required for HVDC Engineering.

  • Ensure contract compliance, and lead in providing assurance and training to the HVDC Engineering team.

  • Lead in providing quality assurance of contracts, and delivery of cost evaluation pre-contract.

  • Lead in providing independent reviews and advice on complex variations and support the process of escalation and dispute avoidance/resolution.

  • Provide support and data to the HVDC Engineering Team for any Board and/or regulatory reporting requirements.

About you

  • Experience in contract management in a construction and/or operational environment, including warranty management.

  • Commercial acumen and supply chain management skills.

Additionally, the following are a bonus but not essential:

  • Basic understanding or appreciation of Coupa and/or other invoicing and payment systems.

  • Understanding or appreciation of FastDraft and/or other contract management systems.

At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
