National Grid Consumer Value and Regulatory Support Partner in Warwick, United Kingdom
About the role
Brand New Roles – UK Hybrid Based
Come and play your part in enabling the UK to achieve Net Zero!
This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security and tackle climate change. National Grid is committed to delivering strategic infrastructure at a pace never achieved before, to enable the UK to transition to clean energy and achieve net zero.
We’ve agreed a new, fast-track approach with Ofgem, our regulator, and are looking for people who can help our project delivery teams deliver new infrastructure within the new framework at pace; making sure we demonstrate that we’re striking the right balance between different priorities - especially cost and time - to allow us to maximise the value we deliver for our customers and society. Because it’s a new way of working, you need to be up for solving problems and holding true to principles to ensure we can navigate our way through the unforeseen, establishing consistency and processes for later projects as we deliver the portfolio.
You will be working with our project development and delivery teams, each of which is responsible for delivering capital projects of between £100m and many £bns in value. As a Regulatory partner, you will advise teams on the ASTI framework, and enable a positive and progressive relationship with Ofgem to ensure the project can proceed through its control points.
You will be part of a close knit team who work flexibly, coming together regularly to share knowledge and support each other. We primarily use our Warwick and London offices, and continue to offer hybrid working (https://jobs.nationalgrid.com/UK/content/Our-culture/?locale=en_GB) from office and home. We currently work at least 1 day per week in an office, dependent on personal and business needs. As projects move on-site you will benefit from seeing delivery on the ground as you continue to have close relations with the delivery teams. Our team is geographically spread from Leeds to Devon, Ofgem is located in London and Glasgow and our projects are largely east coast and west coast, so we truly welcome applicants based across the UK.
We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements
About You
What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:
Experience that demonstrates your potential to work with Ofgem and our project teams to generate positive relationships, demonstrate solid cases for project progress within the ASTI framework and secure timely agreement. This could be through experience in UK regulation, developing economic policy, investment planning, senior stakeholder management or similar.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative personality; able to quickly build effective partnerships with others around the business and a strong team culture within a matrixed organisation.
Strong experience of influencing senior stakeholders and virtual teams (including teams you don’t lead) to ensure they deliver business critical outcomes.
A good understanding of commercial value and an ability to rapidly understand commercial value drivers in a new context.
Highly motivated and organised with a high level of attention to detail, financial acumen, and good numeracy skills.
Results orientated, consistently managing timely delivery in a challenging environment whilst dealing with rapid change and ambiguity.
An understanding of the broad principles of project and risk management.
A driving license would be beneficial but not essential.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
What you'll do
Regulatory Partners
You will be accountable for managing the project specific external interfaces for Strategic Infrastructure, primary with our regulator Ofgem, but also working to support relationships with other stakeholders, potentially including Government departments, Distribution Network Operators and other Transmission Owners.
As part of this, you will support our major project delivery units to secure allowances to progress business critical projects, ensuring successful funding submissions can be made to Ofgem. You will ensure that we have a regulatory plan for the project and that the project understands its regulatory risks. You will act as the first line of assurance that the funding submissions we draft are of high quality, robust, well-evidenced and comply with regulatory expectations.
As part of the wider Commercial, Regulation and Supply Chain team, you will advise Strategic Infrastructure (https://www.nationalgrid.com/strategic-infrastructure) project teams on their regulatory obligations and risks, building on expert technical advice from elsewhere in the team. You will support the wider team to advise on the relationships between regulatory, commercial and supply chain issues. You will take the lead on regulatory issues and requirements for your projects, including proactively highlight regulatory risks to projects, to ensure better outcomes for Strategic Infrastructure and our stakeholders.
What you'll get
A competitive starting salary between £58,000 – £80,000 dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive (https://jobs.nationalgrid.com/UK/content/Whats-in-it-for-you/?locale=en_GB) :
