Would you like to collaborate with a team of forward-thinking experts, committed to Net Zero?

We’re looking for a Carbon Specialist to support the delivery of our environmental action plan and carbon targets. You’ll help our Electricity Transmission (ET) function to lead on our approach to supporting carbon reductions on our infrastructure projects. You will manage our carbon management system, including PAS2080 certification, and be the lead for our whole life carbon tool. You will also get to support both in developing our low carbon construction strategy, and at a project level to support front line action to reduce emissions.

As well as this you’ll be the lead for National Grid on external working groups focused on whole life and embodied carbon. You will manage the transmission wide carbon asset database and provide expertise in embodied carbon assessment of our assets.

As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office working and home working as well as visits to projects. Ideally, you’ll be able to travel to our head office in Warwick.

A competitive salary between £46,400 – £58,700 – dependent on capability

About you

You’ll have a good knowledge of climate change, in particular net zero strategy and carbon management on projects, and/or nature-based solutions as a means of carbon reduction/removal, and the emerging carbon markets both the UK and internationally. It would be desirable to have a working knowledge of the construction or energy sector, and of nature-based solutions in the context of carbon sequestration/reduction. A general understanding of broader sustainability considerations, and an interest in the wider context for climate, sustainability and energy policy (eg climate emergency, net zero) is also desirable. Familiarity with carbon standards associated with carbon compensation projects such as Woodland Carbon Code, Peatland Carbon Code and international standards would be welcome.

You’ll possess excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and have the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. You will be confident with research in emerging areas and able to analyse information, identify trends and effectively communicate your findings in an engaging way.

Passionate about environmental sustainability, with high levels of enthusiasm and drive to achieve results, you’ll be able to convey complex information simply and in plain language. A relevant technical or professional qualification such as Degree, ONC, Diploma or equivalent is desirable.

As a person you are self-motivated, have a keen eye for detail and are confident with numbers and dataset. You should be skilled in Excel, and a good communicator.
