National Grid is hiring Assistant Project Development Engineers for our Customer Connections department in our Central (M1 corridor – Northampton to Luton, East Anglia, Norwich, Cambridge & Chelmsford) Region.

About the role

As an Assistant Project Development Engineer you’ll play a key part in the connections process, supporting the development of both solutions and costs for new projects as well as working with established Users to modify their existing connection solutions. You’ll be interacting with traditional User groups such as generators, large demand loads and Distribution Networks as well as those newer emerging technologies such as Hydrogen projects and large Data Centre connections.

Essential requirements of the role will also see you provide support and on occasion a lead role to resolve both customer, National Grid ESO and other key Stakeholder queries during the connection application journey to ensure that our decision-making process is fully transparent, and their expectations managed.

What you'll do

  • With support from the Lead Connections Engineer, work in collaboration with Customer Account Managers and Power System Engineers to develop connection offers for various customer groups, generators and Distribution Networks within agreed timescales.

  • Using various design tools and systems, develop connections solutions that provide details of both scope, cost and programme timescales, whilst adhering to industry frameworks and internal governance.

  • Actively support the Customer Account Managers and regional multi-disciplinary teams during the connections process, acting as Subject Matter Expert for the offer process and ensuring that the technical, commercial and legal positions are aligned.

  • Ensure core systems used within the offer process are up to date.

  • Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive engagement and transparency and timeliness of issues resolution.

About you

  • Experience of Customer and Stakeholder management.

  • Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification(s) and/or relevant experience in a related field Knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and primary assets preferred.

  • Knowledge of the Connections Process preferred.

  • Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence outcomes

  • Awareness of relevant business processes and frameworks

  • Attention to detail and experience of working in a high volume work environment, within set timescales.

  • Developing knowledge of RIIO framework (not essential)
