National Grid is hiring a Director of Product Management (Asset Management) for our Gas IT department. This position offers remote flexibility, with the requirement that candidates reside in one of the following states: New York (NY), New Jersey (NJ), Massachusetts (MA), Connecticut (CT), Vermont (VT), Rhode Island (RI), Maine (ME), or New Hampshire (NH).

Job Purpose

National Grid is seeking a Product Director in our Gas IT organization to evolve our asset management technical solutions. With thousands of miles of transmission and distribution infrastructure serving hundreds of thousands of customers, effective asset lifecycle performance is key to the safety, reliability, agility, and affordability that are National Grid's commitment to customers.

The rapidly evolving energy landscape, changing climate conditions, developing regulatory frameworks, and growing customer and community expectations result in the need for always-on optimization of asset management technical capabilities to meet our performance targets.

Key Accountabilities

In your first month, you will:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of in-flight and pending work commitments

  • Ensure quantifiable target outcomes and acceptance criteria are clearly defined for these commitments

  • Work with delivery partners to ensure work is properly staffed and supported by the appropriate stakeholders to meet commitments and outcomes

In your first 3 months, you will:

  • Articulate a multi-year asset management technology vision and roadmap based on current insights and assumptions

  • Identify key open questions / information gaps needed to optimize the technology vision and roadmap; define a plan to answer questions / address gaps and work with portfolio delivery leads to determine plan feasibility

  • Ensure teams are unblocked in commitment delivery

  • Build relationships with stakeholders to enable effective collaboration

In your first 6 months, you will:

  • Institute a process for continuous improvement of work delivery and regular review of the asset management vision and roadmap to align with evolving learnings and needs

  • Work with the head of the Gas IT portfolio to refine longer term asset management investments as appropriate

  • Mentor and develop managees and colleagues in product thinking and ways of working

Your strategic responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring there’s a clear, aligned asset management technology vision and roadmap to drive both long and short-term strategic business outcomes

  • Helping evolve Gas IT portfolio practices to maximize the efficiency and timeliness of value delivery

  • Fostering a culture of servant leadership, design thinking, and systems framing

Your tactical responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring all asset management technology work is value framed, and delivered products and services have performance metrics attributable to value

  • Leading cross-functional teams in the planning, prioritization, and delivery of value-driving products and services

  • Making sure cross-functional teams are focused, well managed, and unblocked

  • Delivering work commitments to quality and budget targets

  • Keeping stakeholders highly engaged and well informed

  • Supporting, mentoring, and inspiring team members

Qualifications

• 8+ years product management experience

• 5+ years people management experience (both direct and indirect/matrixed)

• 5+ years leading cross-functional product teams and delivering in a multi-squad product model

• A demonstrated ability to deliver products and services on time and budget that both business and users value

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Deep understanding of agile development methodologies and the software development lifecycle

Brooklyn, NY $202,000 - $238,000 a year

Waltham, MA $189,000 - $222,000 a year

Syracuse, NY $168,000 - $198,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
