Job Purpose

This role leads the New England Business Unit’s digitally enabled, decarbonized electric network transformation by developing strategic plans and roadmaps, setting the right priorities, driving effective execution of needed initiatives, leading the development of new capabilities, identifying needed regulatory/policy enablers, and aligning decarbonization and other outcomes to Company and state/federal goals. The remit also includes leading strategic initiatives and special projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and driving innovation.

This role has multiple stakeholders and success will require effective facilitation and coordination skills as well as the ability to challenge established thinking and lead discussions among internal stakeholders. Your voice will be an important one in these debates and your ability to influence and take senior stakeholders with you will be crucial to your success.

Key Accountabilities

  • Strategy Development: Partner with corporate strategy team to refresh the electric business strategy.

  • Strategic Planning: Lead cross-functional team in developing multi-year roadmap with clear priorities, initiatives, and outcomes and drive alignment and accountability across responsible leaders and teams.

  • Transformation Program Management: Provide program management support to the New England Electric COO who is accountable for executing on the electric network transformation. This includes governance, performance management, risk management, testing and challenging initiative progress, and coaching of and problem-solving with initiative owners.

  • Special Projects and Internal Consulting: Lead cross-functional teams on special projects (e.g., novel regulatory filings, pilot/demo projects) ensuring successful delivery within scope, budget, and timeline and provide capacity and capability where needed to coach, problem-solve, or otherwise advance transformation initiatives.

  • Innovation and Technology: Identify innovation priorities related to electric network transformation and engage externally with peer utilities, industry trade groups, academics, and other stakeholders to learn best practices and other insights to inform the Company’s transformation plan.

  • Thought Leadership: Represent National Grid in industry forums, conferences, and working groups, sharing expertise and insights on the future of electricity networks and their role in the clean energy transition.

  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to a team of professionals working on heat decarbonization initiatives, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting internal stakeholder engagement at the director and executive leadership level.

  • Experience in leading ad hoc, cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in successfully organizing and leading teams through ambiguity to deliver high performance and make lasting change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to clearly articulate critical strategic messages to all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's or advanced degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience is required.

  • Broad understanding of the energy sector and issues affecting the industry (policy/regulatory, market, technology).

  • Demonstrated expertise on decarbonization pathways, clean energy policies, electric network planning and operations, beneficial electrification, wholesale electricity markets, distributed energy resource technologies, and/or innovative regulatory frameworks.

  • Experience in strategy development, strategy execution, and/or program management in large and complex corporate environments.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to convey complex strategic ideas to a wide range of audiences.

  • Experience innovating and building buy-in for change, challenging entrenched thinking in a constructive manner with a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenges.

  • A valid drivers license with a safe driving history is required.

More Information

Salary Range: $195,000 - $229,000
