Job Purpose

The purpose of Colleague Communications and Engagement is to define, lead, and execute colleague communication and engagement activities for National Grid. This role will be at the heart of Colleague Communications and Engagement, working with other members of the Content and Channels team to ensure Grid:home, our award-winning intranet, continues to grow and evolve as the front door to our digital workplace, delivering platform and content projects.

As Digital Channel Specialist you will work with stakeholders and content creators across the business to create an engaging and useful digital colleague experience but will work primarily supporting US-focused or global initiatives, including supporting on global communications campaigns. You will ensure that our colleagues can easily find the information that they need to do their jobs and that the content is relevant and up to date. Although the focus will be on Grid:home, you will also support the management of other colleague communications platforms, including Poppulo, digital signage and Viva Engage, working with other team members.

Key Accountabilities

• Respond to stakeholder requests for content updates and help to manage work intake.

• Conduct regular reviews of existing content to ensure adherence to best practice principles.

• Help to manage a document library in SharePoint, uploading new and replacement documents, enforcing data retention policies and ensuring best practice is followed.

• Support content editors by answering queries and troubleshooting when necessary.

• Assist with the delivery of group-wide campaigns and US/Group content on Grid:home, leading on specific projects/working directly with business stakeholders.

• Assist with testing of new functionality and platform upgrades for Grid:home.

• Contribute to planning and project management processes for Grid:home intranet related initiatives, feeding into the IT and Digital People function office, which applies Agile project management methodology, and contributing towards the future roadmap.

• Assist with platform management and administration for Poppulo, our email management tool, used to issue corporate emails and our weekly newsletter Grid:news – in particular ensuring audience targeting, templates, branding and reporting are set up and used correctly.

• Work with others in the Content and Channels team to ensure emails are delivered accurately and in a timely manner. Support with delivery of Senior Leadership Group and all-colleague emails, where appropriate.

• Assist with generating quarterly analytics reports and providing insights.

• Act as data privacy and records coordinator for the team.

Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of content management systems and digital workplace communications tools (Unily or similar intranet solution experience preferable).

  • Familiarity with SharePoint online.

  • Knowledge of web design principles, including but not limited to:

o User experience

o Accessibility

o CSS and HTML

  • Experience of creating accessible, engaging and clear content, as well as editing and proofing content. This does not have to be in the world of colleague communications but attention to detail and excellent level of written English (National Grid’s official business language) are essential. Including an ability to translate complex business materials into compelling content for a range of colleague communication channels.

  • Stakeholder management – proven ability to work with a range of stakeholders.

  • Planning and project management. Some knowledge of different project management methodologies eg. Agile desirable, but not essential.

  • Measurement – manipulation of analytics tools for reporting and delivering insights. Presenting data in an engaging and meaningful way.

  • Ability to work in IT and communications environments and at times bridge the gap between the two.

Salary

$79k - $93k a year in Waltham, MA.

$85k - $100k a year in Brooklyn, NY.
