Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Health Equity leads the strategy and development of the WellSense’s health equity plan. The Director will focus on business execution as well as employee enablement to enact health equity interventions. The Director will also play a key role in, and work closely with, Boston Medical Center’s Health Equity Accelerator, supporting health system equity programs and policies in partnership with state and federal agencies.

Key Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Health Equity strategy and execution for Wellsense Health Plan in partnership with BMC Health System initiatives and programs

  • Establishes and chairs a Health Equity committee focused on developing member/patient-focused interventions that address systemic barriers to access and design inclusive solutions

  • Supports and conducts regular Health Equity meetings with key constituents to build relationships, share best practices and health equity tactics, develop a health equity plan, and provide quality resources or services that add value for the members

  • Partners with business unit leaders on integration of health equity goals in annual business planning

  • Oversees Health Equity training for business teams and employees, partnering with HR to develop and deliver inclusion and anti-racism training

  • Maintains Health Equity plans required by state and federal agencies including CMS, Mass Health, DHHS in New Hampshire and oversees the Equity requirements for NCQA accreditation

  • Serves as a key point of contact with BMCs Health Equity Accelerator

  • Partners with data analytics team to inform Health Equity interventions focused on improved access and outcomes

  • Serves as key partner to COO in planning and strategy. Defines need, structures approach and identifies resources to support strategic planning projects

  • Other duties as assigned

  • No direct supervision initially but will lead and oversee the work of cross-functional teams

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of training and experience

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or related field

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience including overseeing Health Equity programs and interventions

  • 5+ years of project planning and management experience

  • Experience in payer/provider industry

Experience Preferred/Desirable:

  • 1-3 years of experience in management consulting or related field

  • 1-3 years of experience with Medicaid or Medicare products

Competencies, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Proven strategic thinking and analytic skills

  • Proven track record of successful project and program leadership

  • Ability to synthesize data, operational models and other inputs to identify key root causes and opportunities for improvement

  • Ability to scope, define and interpret quantitative analyses of operational problems

  • Understanding of value drivers of healthcare payers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to create materials that clearly and concisely communicate priorities and plans

  • Ability to create support across a wide range of stakeholders through well-developed interpersonal and influencing capabilities

  • Ability to build and manage teams
