Pearson Success Coach, University & Careers Adviser in United Kingdom

We are recruiting for Success Coaches who will support pupils online to achieve their very highest potential in their secondary education and develop the skills and mindset required for success at school and beyond.

We are looking for experienced educators with a passion for their student pastoral care, expertise in supporting students preparing for university and their career beyond and a willingness to be involved in setting up and shaping all aspects of the school.

The role reports to the Principal of Pearson Online Academy UK Global.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching and Mentoring

The successful applicant will:

  • Establish a positive relationship with each student assigned to you through regular one-to-one meetings.

  • Provide personalised coaching and mentoring support to students, motivating them to make effective progress in their learning and promoting their confidence and independence.

  • Help foster a community among culturally diverse students by providing opportunities for interaction and collaboration.

  • Be the first point of contact for parents or mentors, assisting them in supporting their children.

  • Deliver live lessons on a Skills and Mindset programme which covers the skills, strategies and mindset required for students to be successful at the school and in their life beyond it. And assist in reviewing, evaluating, and developing the programme.

  • Liaise with your fellow Success Coaches to support each other and share best practice.

  • Liaise with the SENDCo team with regards the support provided to students.

  • Help foster an effective, enthusiastic, and safe online learning environment.

  • Establish standards for student behaviour that promotes digital citizenship, ensures academic integrity and the appropriate use of technology.

  • Be able to address basic technology related issues that may impact students online learning.

University and Future Career

The successful applicant will:

  • Take ownership of providing advice and support to students and their parents or mentor on matters related to their university choices and their potential career plans.

  • Advise and assist students in their applications to universities both in the UK and overseas, be/ becoming an expert on universities, course selection, and entrance requirements.

  • Proactively support students with their university applications, personal statement, interview preparation and references.

  • Discuss career and future employment opportunities with students, helping them successfully plan for a brilliant future.

  • Assist students in obtaining internships or work placements.

Pastoral and Extra-curricular

The successful applicant will:

  • Help to shape and extend the pastoral and learning support offered to students at the school.

  • Work closely with all staff at the school and be the focal point for student welfare across the school, taking responsibility for reporting any concerns to the Principal, and ensuring that action plans are implemented.

  • Liaise closely with parents or mentors to develop a holistic view of a student’s welfare and support their needs.

  • Help to shape the school’s extra-curricular programme and supervise a range of activities and encourage student participation in them

  • Proactively work with students to support their individual extra-curricular passions.

  • Ensure school policies and procedures with regard to student behaviour, daily routines, attendance expectations, homework etc are adhered to.

  • Assist with the development of effective links with external agencies such as charities, that the school may choose to support.

Personal and Professional Development

The successful applicant will:

  • Attend and take advantage of the Professional Development opportunities provided by the school.

  • Assist in reviewing, evaluating, and developing the Skills and Mindset programme for students.

  • Take responsibility for their own professional development and continuously develop and improve their coaching skills and their understanding of student pastoral care and university and career advice.

  • Ensure they keep abreast of developments in best practise blended and online education and continuously update their knowledge and skills for using the evolving technology tools that support online learning.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that the school delivers the very best educational experiences to its’ students.

  • Be proactively involved in other key areas of the school’s development, particularly at this early stage of the initiative.

Requirements and Personal Attributes

The successful applicant will:

  • Previous experience of working with secondary age students in a pastoral and university and career advisory context.

  • Experience in assisting students with preparation for making successful applications to universities in the UK and overseas.

  • High expectations of all students.

  • The ability to enthuse and inspire students, maximising achievement, and progress at all levels.

  • Flexibility, resilience, and a caring approach towards students.

  • Commitment, integrity, strong inter-personal and communication skills.

  • Excellent organisation and administration skills.

  • The desire to continuously develop themselves.

  • Willingness to learn about, and become advocates of, online learning technologies.

Previous experience of teaching or coaching students online is welcomed but is not a pre-requisite for the role.
