National Grid Senior Associate Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveying in United Kingdom

As an Associate Quantity Surveyor you will provide commercial and contractual support to project teams on large scale infrastructure projects. Acting on behalf of our customers, you will help deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.

You will undertake a variety of tasks on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy. Whether you want to take a strategic, technical, commercial, procurement or project management route, this role will help you develop the skills you need.

National Grid continues to offer hybrid working from office and home and are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

  • Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event. You are comfortable using Microsoft applications and have a good working knowledge and experience of Excel, Power Point and Word.

  • You are comfortable reading and understanding contracts and when you do arrive at a contractual decision you can back your own judgement, confident that you have completed all the necessary steps.

  • You’re an effective communicator who’s unafraid to ask for help. You know that you’re not yet an expert and, when appropriate, are happy to check with more senior members of your team before acting.

  • You have the flexibility to occassionally travel to remote UK locations with a UK driving license.

What you'll do

  • Assisting in reviewing supplier entitlement and assessing the time and cost impact of compensation events using the contract management system

  • Supporting the payment application and assessment process using the contract management system

  • Upholding compliance with relevant contractual timescales

  • Assisting in the development, management and reporting of outturn costs and annual/monthly expenditure forecasts.

  • With the support of senior colleagues, take sole responsibility for administration of contracts commensurate with experience. For example, a lower value contract which forms part of a larger contract feeding into a single programme of works.

  • Assisting in the cost audit of certain projects, provide information for any external audit.

  • Participating in contract risk reviews, including maintaining and updating risk management software.

  • Assisting in ensuring project compliance with National Grid governance processes and Best Practice Guidance.

  • Building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including Project Managers, Planners, Senior Quantity Surveyors and contractors.

  • Helping facilitate good communication between stakeholders. Communicating succinctly and consistently and reaching out to senior stakeholders for assistance when it is needed.

  • Proactively observing, asking for support for any potential issue, asking for help before the issue escalates.

  • Supporting procurement events, such as tenders for contractors to be awarded the contract for a project or portfolio of works.

  • Leading on the commercial evaluation of smaller scale tenders or providing support on larger value tenders.

  • Input to decision making on most suitable procurement route, including suggestions for any contract deviations or improvements.

  • Working with the procurement and legal team to ensure compliance with procurement and legal processes.

  • Assisting with cost share activities and KPI or incentive data collection and reporting.

  • Supporting purchase order accuracy within the project.

  • Show enthusiasm to develop and undertake further professional development.

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £45,521 - £55,000 dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
