National Grid Asset Management Manager in United Kingdom

This role will be an important position within the Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit, enabling us to build the projects that will make the energy transition happen. You will lead the Asset Management team within Engineering Services, heading SI on asset management and supporting project delivery teams while closely working with the Electricity Transmission (ET) business unit, building excellent working relationships. This will enable SI to ensure efficient and effective delivery, and transfer of projects over to ET once they’re complete and ready to be accepted onto the wider network. ET will then be responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the infrastructure when in service.

You will lead and direct a team of Asset Management Engineers who will be responsible for the different aspects of the asset management landscape such as strategy & planning, technical specifications, type registration, asset management plans, management review, audit & assurance. You will also identify and implement opportunities for improvement, innovation and value creation. You’ll establish and maintain effective relationships with the above-mentioned internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders such as suppliers, regulators and industry peers.

About you

  • Experienced and competent understanding of electricity transmission assets onshore and ideally offshore as well

  • Management of engineering teams to drive and deliver technical solutions

  • Highly focussed on safety, demonstratable through involvement with influential groups or external authorising bodies

  • Track record of introducing innovative solutions and challenging established policies, methodology and practices

  • Experience in managing internal / external stakeholder relationships#

  • A relevant BSc Degree in an Engineering discipline

  • Membership of a relevant professional body, preferably IET / IAM

  • Extensive experience of developing and implementing Asset Management Frameworks

  • Experience of ISO 55000 Asset Management Frameworks

What you'll do

  • Asset Management Policy: Lead on the SI perspective, revising a joint version for SI and ET

  • Strategic Planning: Coordinate between SI and ET on all asset management work, demonstrating alignment with NGET network strategy

  • Strategic Asset Management Plan: Lead on the SI perspective, contributing to the writing and refresh of the joint SI and ET asset management strategy to cover SI angle, further translating this to a set of deliverable objectives for setting our internal performance contract and regulatory price control submissions.

  • Asset Management Plans: Develop specific asset family lifecycle plans for new assets originating in SI

  • Technical Standards: Lead authorship of asset policies and technical specifications as need is triggered in SI and in alignment with NGET network strategy

  • Lifecycle Value Realisation: Lead on the SI perspective, collaborating with ET to enhance and develop lifecycle value realisation across major projects process governance

  • Terms of Reference: Revise and maintain the terms of reference that defines the roles and responsibilities split between SI and ET

  • Management Review, Audit & Assurance: Contribute to obtaining recurring recertification of ISO 55001 to cover activities of both ET and SI, ensure effectiveness of overall asset management system, and assess asset management maturity of ET and SI combined. Further identify gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement against the ISO 55001 suite of standards, and lead asset management maturity through innovation, standardisation and digitalisation

  • Best Practices: Draw out and / or recommend best practices in asset management to delivery project teams and subject matter experts

What you'll get

A competitive salary up to £77,000
