The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing team as Technical Product Manager. In this exciting role you will be playing a mix of engineering lead, scrum master, business analyst and project manager and will be responsible for managing agile software development teams to deliver outstanding digital products end to end.
A Technical Product Manager should be able to deliver executive briefings, lead delivery teams, understand technical architectural considerations for all products in their assigned portfolio.
Experience with administration, identity systems and consolidation of applications essential.
High Level Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the product or application and the management of complex cross-product technical solutions.
Responsible for the Financial Performance of the team and delivery of product portfolio.
Manage vendor relationships and ensure delivery of services suitable for team, business and customer requirements.
Work with product managers and stakeholders to align on product or project goals and strategy to develop the delivery roadmap
Develop a keen understanding of the customer including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches
Work well with internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making
Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical solutions and capabilities to serve a global customer base
Convert product roadmap features into clear and well-structured functional requirements and user stories for development
Analyze requirements and identify solution gaps and opportunities for refinement . Assure deliverables meet requirements.
Build and maintain a groomed backlog of sized stories and tasks
Lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with high-quality solutions.
Assist with project management, by defining and tracking deliverables to a schedule
Create reports and dashboards to track and visualize initiative progress, highlight key risks, and report spend against plan.
Facilitate meetings, document meeting outcomes, record and assign action points, and track follow ups
Coach the development team on Agile best practices to deliver high quality products and services to our customers
Facilitate and support all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint demo
Set the team up to be self-organizing and nimble. Resolve team impediments to increase the efficiency
Responsible for one or multiple product models and delivery teams.
Within the leadership team you may be tasked with the responsibility to deliver transversal activities or projects such as Budget support, Collaboration Activities, Tender Responses or leading group wide initiatives.
Ability to adapt to different product models assigned to your portfolio.
Ensure compliance with Pearson standards such CISO and Data Privacy.
*Qualifications & Skills *
Degree in Software engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
Extensive years of deep hands-on technical expertise either as a software developer or through the management of highly technical programs at an enterprise scale
Demonstrable technical product development experience and a track record of shipping software on time
Strong business and technical vision
Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills
Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban), or understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices
Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques
Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficient user of JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, Miro or other comparable tools
Experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization
Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English with the ability to efficiently articulate ideas, pass along information and present visionary concepts to key decision-makers
Passion for education and learning
Experience in working with multinational, multicultural and distributed teams
