Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Vancouver, British Columbia

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Frameworks team at Microsoft develops AI software that enables AI models to run seamlessly across a wide range of platforms—from the world’s fastest AI supercomputers to servers, desktops, mobile phones, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and web browsers. We collaborate closely with our hardware teams and partners to build software stacks for cutting-edge AI accelerators. Additionally, we work hand-in-hand with Machine Learning (ML) researchers and developers to optimize and scale model training and inference. We are excited to invite a Software Engineer II to join our team!

Our team operates at the intersection of AI algorithmic innovation, software, systems, and specialized AI hardware. We are a multidisciplinary team with a culture of collaboration and inclusivity. We also actively engage with and contribute to the open-source community.

As a Software Engineer II on our team, you will have the opportunity to work on foundational abstractions, runtimes, kernel libraries, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that enable large-scale training and inference of the most advanced OpenAI models using the Maia100 accelerator.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI software in C/C++, Python, and other languages.

  • Apply engineering principles for defining robust and maintainable architectures and designs.

  • Collaborate broadly across multiple disciplines from hardware designers to ML developers.

  • Identify requirements, scope solutions, estimate work, schedule deliverables.

  • Help establish and drive the adoption of outstanding coding standards and patterns and help enhance our inclusive engineering culture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1yr Experience using and developing AI training and inference software (PyTorch, Tensorflow, Triton etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years experience with Python

  • A solid technical background and foundation in software engineering principles

  • Intellectual curiosity and passion about learning new technologies

  • Experience using and developing AI training and inference software (PyTorch, Tensorflow, Triton etc.)

  • Cross-team collaboration skills and the desire to collaborate in a team of developers and researchers

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $83,600 - CAD $159,600 per year.
