The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversified port. Our mandate as a Canada Port Authority, as set out by the Canada Marine Act, is to enable Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely and responsibly through the Port of Vancouver. That means providing infrastructure and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic and cargo within the port. It also means we carry out reviews of proposed activities and developments on federal port lands and waters to determine whether a project can go ahead without impacts to the environment and community that cannot be mitigated.

The senior internal auditor is a member of the internal audit department that provides independent and objective assurance and advisory services to port authority management and the Board. lnternal audit's services aim to support the execution of the port authority's strategy through a risk-based approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes.

Under the direction of the manager, internal audit, this position works closely with the director, risk management & assurance and internal audit's co-source partner; and is responsible for actively supporting all aspects of the internal audit process.

What youdo:

  • Performingpreliminary risk assessment to understand the audit environment, including keybusiness risks and controls.

  • Conductingengagement planning and preparing audit program for each engagement.

  • Executingaudit procedures under the direction of the manager, internal audit or the director,risk management & assurance, including preparing detailed audit workingpapers, developing testing procedures for diverse audits that require the useof critical thinking skills and application of sound judgement and conductinginterviews with stakeholders involved in the audit process.

  • Participatingin the assessment of audit findings, and for the purposes of drafting the auditreport, articulate preliminary audit observations and develop the directionalrecommendations to management.

  • Complyingwith the relevant professional standards during performance of individualduties and responsibilities

  • Ensuringinternal audit files, working papers and records are up-to-date and properlyfiled.

  • Proactivelycontributing to the professionalization and continuous improvement of the internalaudit function.

  • Buildingand maintaining relationships with key internal stakeholders to better enablethe execution of the internal audit plan.

  • Activelyparticipate in internal audit's follow-up activities to monitor and documentthe progress of management's remediation efforts.

  • Preparingperiodical remediation status reports for the director, risk management & assurance,executive leadership and the audit and risk management committee.

  • Performingvalidation procedures, under the direction of the manager, internal audit, toconfirm remediation effectiveness as applicable.

What you bring:

  • Abachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., business, commerce, accounting,finance, or equivalent)

  • Aprofessional accounting/audit risk designation in good standing (e.g., CPA,ClA, CISA, CRISC, CFE or equivalent). Preference may be given to applicants whohave a certified internal auditor (ClA) designation in good standing.

  • Minimumof four (4) years of progressively senior level internal auditing experience,in a diversified corporate environment or with a large public practice firm.

  • Demonstratedcomputer proficiency. Experience with computer assisted analytics and JDEdwards ERP are considered assets.

  • Demonstratedability to understand the broader economic, strategic and operations issuesfacing the business.

  • Musthave strong leadership qualities, an attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Mustbe collaborative, team-oriented, self-motivated, performance driven, multi-tasker,and confident.

  • Mustpossess excellent oral and written communication skills to effectivelyinterface with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Mustbe able to balance an "independent, objective" perspective whiletaking a collaborative approach towards working with the organization.

  • Mustpossess a sound understanding of risk, internal controls, and businessfinancial discipline.

  • Musthave a can-do approach to tasks and challenges complemented with asolutions-driven attitude.

  • Mustbe creative, hardworking, focused on results, and known and respected for theirintegrity, strong ethics, and great ability to build trusting relationships.
