Microsoft Corporation Senior Audio Engineer – Xbox Games Technology Group – The Coalition in Vancouver, British Columbia

Games continue to evolve and push the boundaries of entertainment as we know it. The bar to deliver world-class games continues to rise, driven by advantages in better hardware and software capabilities. Along with optimizing game development engines, developing infrastructure and workflows for efficient remote and hybrid development, brings new opportunities and engineering challenges that all studios are facing today. Solving these challenges is critical to enabling efficient hybrid teams as well as external globally distributed development partners who help scale during peak phases of development. At The Coalition Studio, through our work on the acclaimed Gears of War franchise, we are tackling these problems head-on by leading engine innovation, developing technical showcase technologies, and delivering world class workflows, tools and features that are adopted across the wider Xbox Game Studios organization.

We are looking for a Senior Audio Engineer to join our team of audio enthusiasts striving for immersive, award-winning audio in our titles. We would like someone with an interest in sound content, who can communicate sound ideas and translate them to audio systems and tools. With a focus on Console/PC games you will collaborate with a variety of creative minds to create cutting-edge gaming experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work to empower the audio team with tools and pipelines to materialize their creative vision.

  • Collaborate with various teams to gather requirements and develop audio features.

  • Work closely with core engine team to ensure runtime audio is performant.

  • Work with the audio engineering team to abstract, share and support our tools, pipelines and features with other studios across Xbox.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years experience in game development or similar audio software using C++.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to problem-solve independently in new and existing systems or technologies

  • Effective communication skills and comfortable working closely with engineers and artists

  • Experience developing tools, pipelines, and custom plugins

  • Experience with version control systems

  • Experience working on indie games or open-source projects

  • Experience with Unreal Engine and Wise or equivalent middleware

  • Interest or hobbies in music or sound design

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $108,100 - CAD $199,700 per year.
