Microsoft Corporation Applied Scientist II in Vancouver, British Columbia

Are you interested in building personalized recommendations for billions of users or working on Document Understanding leveraging and building state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) that extract insights from millions of news articles?

The Vertical Insights Team in Feeds and Verticals is working on exciting projects around building personalized recommendations, generating interesting and useful insights from news articles for users for verticals like Finance, Sports etc. Our team focusses on the whole recommendation stack building, especially the modeling parts in different recommendation layers, including document understanding, segment recall, user profile modeling, personalized ranking, diversity optimization, etc.

We are looking to hire an Applied Scientist II to join our team. Responsibilities

As an Applied Scientist II in the team, your major responsibilities include:

  • Thinking through the product scenarios and goals, identify key challenges and design experimental process for iteration and optimization.

  • Model training and optimizing, collaborating with platform team on online serving and perf optimization.

  • Keeping track of the latest research trends in the fields of personalized recommendation, NLP & Deep Learning in general.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with other research teams and product teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year experience in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing or large-scale data mining.

  • 1+ year experience with deep learning frameworks like Pytorch, TensorFlow, CNTK, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working/research experience in recommendation areas or NLP

  • Proficient coding skills

  • Proficient communication skills

  • Be self-directed and prioritize effectively

Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $79,600 - CAD $153,000 per year.
