Position Summary
As a Lab Instructor, the primary responsibility is the implementation of the on-site laboratory and simulation experiences. Instructors are accountable to the Academic Program Director.

Major Responsibilities
Instructs laboratory skills and nursing knowledge during scheduled lab sessions
Teaches 6 laboratory sections per semester, three semesters per academic year
Instructs clinical sections as assigned
Holds a minimum of 4 hours of open lab/office hours per week
Effectively evaluates student practice based on course rubrics and guidelines
Works collaboratively with didactic course faculty to develop active learning experiences to meet the objectives for the assigned laboratory courses
Maintains current knowledge of the nursing curriculum, policies, and requirements
Maintains clinical competence and knowledge in area of expertise
Maintains communication with Academic Program Director, students, and course faculty
Prepares laboratory for lab instruction and maintains laboratory facilities following use
Collaborates with nursing didactic faculty and Academic Program Director pertaining to laboratory needs
Communicates with Academic Program Director regarding needed laboratory supplies and equipment
Assists with maintenance and cleaning of equipment to maintain good working order. Collaborates with Academic Program Director on repair needs.
Constructs and updates a laboratory maintenance, repair, and replacement master schedule to inform budgetary needs
Communicates with Academic Program Director regarding biohazard materials including bloodborne pathogens and sharps disposal in accordance with policy to ensure public safety
Organizes and labels supply cabinets
Counsels students on priorities and other matters to provide direction, and directs students to didactic instructors, success coaches or other appropriate persons for information or intervention
Maintains confidentiality of student records and other information in accordance with FERPA regulations
Participates in clinical orientation immersions as assigned
Completes recommended training regarding simulation and nursing education/stays current with simulation recommendations
Proctors exams as scheduled
Attend scheduled meetings with course faculty, program meetings, workgroup meetings, etc.
Mentoring and advisement of students as assigned
Mentors additional lab instructors as needed
Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Qualifications
· Master of Science in Nursing required
· Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in NY (or eligible) required
· 3 years nursing practice with direct patient care experience required
· Teaching experience in nursing preferred
· Online teaching experience preferred
· Simulation experience preferred
Minimum Skills/Abilities
The functions of the position are usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, etc. involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above. Other duties as assigned.
