Position Summary

The Associate Director of Annual Giving will have principal responsibility to implement initiatives that encourage increased giving and participation of unrestricted, annual donations to Utica College’s Fund for Student Success. The Associate Director will have day-to-day responsibility for implementing, and monitoring efforts to increase donor participation through such efforts as crowdfunding, recurring gifts programs, giving day activities, and staff giving. The incumbent will develop plans to increase donor acquisition, retention, renewal, retrievals, and upgrades. The Associate Director will serve as the principal development officer to present and promote the case for annual, unrestricted support of Utica College to its key constituencies including alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and administration. The incumbent will design, implement, manage, and assess the tactical and strategic plans to secure annual goals for numbers of donors and dollars contributing annually for The Fund for Student Success.

In consultation with the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will play a leading role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual leadership donors to the College through its primary leadership recognition society: The Pioneer Society. The Associate Director of Annual Giving will assist in the overall planning and implementation of the College’s comprehensive development program for its annual priorities.

Major Responsibilities

Frontline Fundraising (100%):

· In collaboration with other development staff, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will play a leading role in the design, implementation, management, and assessment of the major initiatives that support The Fund for Student Success, including, but not limited to, the Pioneer Society, alumni, parents, friends, affinity giving, faculty, staff, and administration.

· The Associate Director of Annual Giving will serve as the lead spokesperson for the Utica College Fund for Student Success while providing strategic direction and planning for all the areas listed above. Planning and direction will be done in the context of growing the annual giving program while supporting the greater development and campaign goals of Utica College.

· The Associate Director of Annual Giving will oversee efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects for leadership level gifts of $1000 or more; including assuming a personal solicitation portfolio of approximately 150 individuals. Among other metrics, the expectation for personal visits with prospective donors is 10-15 meetings per month.

· The Associate Director of Annual Giving will serve as the liaison for the Participation and Advocacy Committee of the UCAC , as well as, hold responsibility for organizing constituent volunteers to serve as champions for The Fund for Student Success.

· The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work with Marketing and Communications to brand The Fund for Student Success. In conjunction with the Marketing and Communications team, the incumbent will formulate and execute direct mail solicitations and outreach that follows.

· In collaboration with other development staff, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will analyze data and College’s institutional benchmarks, be up-to-date on fundraising and industry trends, and will use metrics to drive strategy for increased philanthropic support of The Fund for Student Success.

· In support of other development officers, the senior officers of the College, Trustees, and other key volunteers, the Associate Director of Annual Giving will advise and consent on proposals and other written materials prepared to secure annual leadership gifts.

· The Associate Director of Annual Giving will work with all members of the Advancement team to carry out a successful fundraising program, including leadership responsibility of organizing the College’s Annual Give Day and other crowdfunding campaigns.

· Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.

· Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Driving Responsibilities

Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by College insurance carrier guidelines. Motor vehicle record will be monitored regularly using NYS License Event Notification Service or License Monitor, Inc. for out of state licenses.


10% – 25%, local travel required.

Education & Experience Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. Applications from candidates with two or more years of experience in educational advancement, fundraising, or related experience is strongly encouraged. Consideration may be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience if that experience is in a college or university, or another nonprofit environment.

Minimum Skills/Abilities

  • Strong managerial and leadership necessary.

  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, as well as ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers.

  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.

  • Excellent skill and understanding of computer and constituent software required.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
