Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Campus Engagement will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and assessing a wide range of campus events and initiatives. This position is responsible for overseeing New Student Orientation, managing Clubs and Organizations, advising the Greek Life community and the campus programming board,and developing leadership programs. The role also involves planning Homecoming and Senior Week events, and executing marketing and advertising strategies to promote campus events. The Assistant Director will use data and assessment to continuously improve campus engagement efforts.

Major Responsibilities

Event Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute campus-wide events including New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Involvement Fair, Homecoming, Senior Week, and other key activities.

  • Oversee logistical aspects of events such as venue selection, scheduling, budgeting, and vendor management.

  • Collaborate with student leaders, faculty, and staff to ensure successful event outcomes.

New Student Orientation:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive orientation programs for new students to facilitate their transition to university life.

  • Coordinate with academic departments and student services to provide a seamless orientation experience.

  • Assess and enhance the effectiveness of orientation programs based on feedback and data analysis.

  • Oversee the Orientation Mentors (OMs) and facilitate OM Training.

Clubs and Organizations:

  • Support and guide student clubs and organizations in their event planning, program development, and leadership training.

  • Facilitate the recognition and registration process for new student organizations.

  • Provide resources and training to student leaders to promote successful organizational management.

  • Advise the Utica Campus Programming Board (UCPB).

  • Serve as the point person for the campus engagement and event management software system PioHub.

Greek Life:

  • Oversee Greek Life programs and initiatives, including recruitment events, leadership development, and community service activities.

  • Ensure compliance with university policies and national Greek Life standards.

  • Advise the InterGreek Council (IGC).

Leadership Development:

  • Design and implement leadership development programs and workshops for students.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate leadership opportunities across campus.

  • Track and assess the impact of leadership programs on student growth and engagement.

Marketing and Advertising:

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote campus events and initiatives through various channels including social media, campus media, and print materials.

  • Work with the university’s communications team to ensure consistent branding and messaging.

  • Analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.

Data and Assessment:

  • Collect and analyze data related to student engagement, event participation, and program effectiveness.

  • Prepare reports and presentations on campus engagement metrics and outcomes.

  • Use assessment results to drive continuous improvement in campus programs and services.

Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Event Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in campus activities, event management, new student orientation, or student life.

Minimum Skills/Abilities

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, work collaboratively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.

  • Experience with data analysis and assessment techniques.

  • Proficiency in marketing and advertising strategies, including social media and digital platforms.
