Assessment & Qualifications Psychometrician in Trenton, New Jersey

Overview:

As part of the Pearson Clinical Psychometrics team, psychometricians are responsible for providing psychometric services (consulting, data analysis, psychometric review) for the research and development of Pearson clinical assessment instruments. We are looking for candidates willing to reexamine assumptions, ask probing questions, take ownership of their roles and responsibilities, and view all interactions as opportunities to make ourselves, each other, and the work continuously better.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead psychometrician on the assigned research projects from Pearson Clinical Assessment.

  • Daily psychometric-related consulting, problem-solving, and innovation for the assigned research projects.

  • Conduct project planning regularly to make sure all needed psychometric service is provided on time, in good quality, within budget, and to the satisfaction of internal and external customers.

  • Work closely with the content test development staff from Pearson Clinical Assessment to ensure the data are clean and the samples are stratified according to the need.

  • Review and approve all research specs and ensure the most appropriate psychometric procedures and research design are used for the assigned research projects.

  • Identify and draft the complete psychometric scope; write detailed data analysis specifications for conducting analyses documented in the scope.

  • Conduct the needed psychometric analysis, such as classic and IRT analysis, reliability and validity analysis, vertical scaling, equating, DIF, factor analysis, logistic regression, and norms development, etc.

  • Conduct the needed quality assurance to ensure the quality of all psychometric work for the assigned projects.

  • Write SAS programs for web-based scoring and create master test case files for automated software QA.

  • Conduct psychometric reviews of the Pearson products licensed for publication by non-Pearson publishers.

  • Provide psychometric training to content test development staff as needed to ensure they understand the output of the data analysis results and are able to use them in test development.

  • Review and approve the psychometric-related section of the manual, and assist RD in manual writing or in other technical writing. Conduct psychometric review for international adaptations of Pearson products.

  • Supervise and train statistical analysts as needed.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $85,000 - $90,000.

Qualifications:

PhD or ABD in psychometrics, measurement and evaluation, artificial intelligence, experimental psychology, or the related field. Demonstrated experience (coursework for entry-level) in several of the following areas: item response theory (IRT); classic and IRT Item analysis; DIF analysis; vertical scaling; equating; norming; computer adaptive testing; sampling theory; theoretical and applied statistics; structural equation modeling; generalizability theory; Bayesian inference; hierarchical linear modeling; logistic regression, etc.

Excellent SAS programming skills and comfortable with SAS macro and IML. Expertise in other statistical software packages, and programming languages such as Winsteps, SPSS, Amos, Parscale, Multilog, R, Facets, etc.

At least one year of experience in psychometrics/measurement and evaluation. Experience as a Graduate Research Assistant is acceptable. Must have good communication skills in English.

Knowledge of psychological or educational assessments and the test development process, familiarity with digital and visualization technologies, programming skills with Java, HTML, and XML, experience and knowledge related to data mining and information technologies and their applications are plus.
