Job Summary:

Reporting to the Consultant, Training & Development, the Trainer will perform software testing and facilitate training sessions for staff in Parks Forestry and Recreation (PFR) and Economic Development and Culture (EDC) on a new online registration and booking system.The trainer will report to Metro Hall and/or City Hall for in-office days. However, during training cycles, the trainer will be required to travel to variously City locations to administer training. In addition, evening and weekend availability is required to support the training schedule as needed.The Trainer will be required to work unassisted and onsite during this period to set up and take down training equipment.

The Trainer will support the Registration and Booking Transformation Project (RBT) by testing software, delivering training, assessing users, and performing administrative services on this transformational project. The incumbent will provide subject matter expertise and leadership related to the registration and booking system and training delivery to meet the training requirements of the RBT Project.

The incumbent will assume the lead role in ensuring staff are prepared for the transition to the new registration and booking system. The incumbent will provide guidance and support in reference to training implementation and evaluation strategies.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implements and delivers/facilitates training programs and testing standards. Assists with the development and maintenance of courses, training materials as well as resources to reflect current technology and procedures.

  • Provides subject matter expertise related to a function or technical skill.

  • Participates with technology infrastructure support teams in the design development, evaluation, testing, configuration, integration, and co-ordination of new or upgraded software or hardware within the work areas and to the overall system with emphasis on the seamless integration within a complex facility.

  • Assesses and evaluates participants' skills, knowledge, and performance. Monitors on-the-job training programs.

  • Supervises projects related to Workforce Development as assigned, and ensures associated expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.

  • Prepares reports on training and skills development and compliance issues.

  • Assists the Supervisor in the procurement and administration of services, materials and equipment related to staff training initiatives in support of legislative compliance and divisional goals.

  • Collects data on training evaluations and performance measurement tools.

  • Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.

  • Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.

  • Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.

  • Assists the Supervisor with updates to position skills profiles and individual training plans.

  • Assists the Supervisor with the maintenance of a computerized tracking process to track course attendance, course completion, skills level attainments and participant and facilitator feedback. Tracks and monitors records to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Participates in labour relation matters as they relate to the division's training initiatives (i.e., program specific certifications, apprenticeship programs, compliance etc.) and delivery of training.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in Adult education, training, recreation, human resources, or related field or approved equivalent combination of experience and/or education.

  2. Considerable experience planning, coordinating, and delivering training to large groups.

  3. Experience in training and development/adult education including program design, delivery, assessment, evaluation, and related administration.

  4. Experience delivering a variety of training courses, programs, and curricula to diverse and large audiences (e.g., instructor-led in class sessions, webinars, self-directed; e-learning, reference guides, presentations, etc.) which support diversity and accessibility.

  5. Considerable experience facilitating/presenting technical and/or recreational subject matter to large groups.

  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at various levels within organizations, including oral/written and presentation skills.

  7. Experience with recreation software such as CLASS or ACTIVENet considered an asset.

  8. Excellent communication and organization skills.

  9. Knowledge of instructional design, eLearning standards and best practices (such as accessibility) as well as emerging learning technologies (e.g. social learning, eLearning, blended learning) considered an asset.

  10. Able to set up and take down training environments including training technology, training room arrangement and training materials.

  11. Ability to travel to various work locations across the city as travel will be required.

  12. Ability to work flexible hours as required including evenings and weekends.

  13. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products in order to create reports, spreadsheets, and presentations (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
