CIBC Sr. Financial Analyst, Treasury Accounting in Toronto, Ontario

What You’ll Be Doing

The role is responsible for complete and accurate accounting, investigation of variances, and supplementary reporting for CIBC both trading and non-trading businesses within Treasury as part of the Canadian Retail Treasury (CRT) team. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing professional, timely and efficient accounting and operational support to Derivative, Cash, and Treasury products team. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing complete and accurate accounting and analysis, with the focus on monitoring and investigating investment transactions within trading systems to support accurate financial reporting.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Problem solving - Investigate and resolve differences between the ledgers and the source systems to ensure accurate reporting.

  • Teamwork – Work with various teams including Product Control, Regulatory Reporting, and business partners (Finance/Treasury)

  • Financial Analysis - Prepare commentary and analyses for Finance to explain month over month and quarter over quarter fluctuations as well as month-end attestation packages to meet Finance and governance reporting requirements

  • Organization – Complete all tasks in a timely manner to meet the deadline of month-end processes including accrual postings, performing SOX controls, and Meet and/or exceed all documented Service Level Agreements

  • Innovative - Assist initiative teams and senior Product Control staff in the development of new reports, and testing of new systems and or processes to ensure accuracy and completeness

You are able to calculate or otherwise validate hedge accounting adjustments and effectiveness for designated relationships, perform analysis to understand causes and sources of ineffectiveness, and explain hedge accounting disclosure items under IFRS 7, Financial instrument disclosures. It is an asset if you also have advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge (pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, etc) and to manage macros (VBA)

  • You have a degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance and/or 1 - 3 years of business related experience; pursing or enrolled in CFA, CPA or Masters.
