We are seeking a talented GIS professional to join our lively and dynamic team, where we leverage spatial data and tools and apply them to solve municipal challenges.

Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities as a Senior Spatial Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate, design, develop, implement, configure, sustain, document and review geospatial solutions, where such solutions facilitate maintenance and access to geospatial services including map, data, analytics, and geoprocessing, and involve Web applications, mobile applications and data feeds from external organizations.

  • Provide day-to-day support of geospatial initiatives, including unit and integration testing, documentation, installation, support and archival of project environments.

  • Undertake quality reviews for geospatial solutions and information assets.

  • Participate in design and evaluation sessions of spatial data structures and geospatial processes with objectives to promote integration with existing geospatial information assets and tools and to ensure adherence to standards.

  • Assist business units in selecting and implementing appropriate geospatial technology and procedures by researching and recommending viable options to enable high quality geospatial service components to meet business requirements.

  • Analyze business and Information Technology issues pertaining to the use of geospatial information and technology as appropriate.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of both the current and the planned GIS platforms and development environments.

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of City IT platforms and apply this understanding to enhance geospatial information and technology usage for various business units

  • Provide consultation through presentations and/or written descriptions to groups with varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Participate in design and evaluation sessions of spatial data structures and spatially enabled applications, with the objectives of promoting integration with existing geospatial information assets and tools, and ensuring adherence to standards.

  • Work with stakeholders to identify business needs and gather requirements for data analysis and expected deliverables to support data-driven decisions.

  • Participates in geospatial IT project teams and provides advice to team members on applying project management concepts, methodologies including determining project requirements, analyzing and recommending feasible options within project objectives, timelines and cost.

Key Qualifications:

Your application for the role of Senior Geospatial Specialist should describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Considerable experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise Suite including knowledge of ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Data Store on-premise and/or in the cloud.

  2. Experience with working with enterprise Geodatabase and its administration.

  3. Considerable experience with solution development with Python, Esri’s development tools and APIs, PL/SQL and SQL etc.

  4. Experience working with service-oriented architecture.

  5. Experience with implementing enterprise GIS solutions and integrating Esri technology with City’s business systems.

  6. Experience with data architecture and modeling in an enterprise environment.

  7. Experience in applying machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to enhance geospatial data analysis and modeling and solve business problems.

  8. Experience in analyzing user requirements, recommending solutions and clearly communicating the means of geospatial technologies.

  9. Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems, Geography or an equivalent combination of educations and experience, and with extensive experience in large-scale IT solutions.

You must also have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an aptitude to work independently and collaboratively with others in a multidisciplinary team setting.

  • Knowledge of GIS standards and best practises to ensure data quality and compliance with industry norms.

  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest ArcGIS technologies and industry trends.

  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations and best practises.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness in teamwork, facilitation, communications, conflict resolution, problem solving, incident management and team leadership in projects, assignments and service engagements, particularly in dealing with a complex technical environment.

  • Good verbal and written communications and knowledge transfer skills

  • Ability to work flexible hours including days, afternoons, nights and weekends, as required.

  • Ability to be on call for support of production systems, as required.

  • Ability to travel across various office locations within the City of Toronto, as required.
