Senior Manager, Risk and Regulatory Reporting

The candidate contributes to the delivery of key risk information and data analytics for the Global Risk Management – Business Banking. He/she plays an active role in the deployment of technology solutions that enhance the effectiveness of risk management. He/she partners with colleagues in GRM and IT&S, in addition to other Bank stakeholders, to assist with the deployment of multi-disciplinary, complex solutions that align with GRM’s strategic priorities.

The candidate works with a team of risk reporting specialists that produce daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual risk management/portfolio reporting for senior management and regulatory reporting for OSFI & Bank of Canada. The candidate will focus on designing, developing, and implementing solutions for GRM in areas of reporting, analytics, and other risk initiatives.

The candidate will work closely with the business stakeholders to review and assess business needs for improved risk information and to help define system enhancements to respond to business, operational and management requirements. The candidate’s activities include requirement analysis, data analysis, solution design and documentation, and leading system enhancement development and implementation. Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  1. Work with the Director and the leadership team to develop strategic opportunities for the design, development and implementation of new solutions or enhancements to existing applications by:

  2. Developing and implementing strategies for increasing the effectiveness and quality of business banking risk reporting to senior management, executive, and board including developing standardized metrics and templates.

  3. Receiving business requirements and assess against data availability and risk management to determine the right delivery approach for new reports.

  4. Lead initiatives to enhance reporting capabilities by improving analytical programs, to improve efficiencies, facilitate analysis, shorten report generation times, and migrate reports to common platforms.

  5. Provide fast and reliable revision of reports as requested by the Board, Executive Management, and regulators.

  6. Ensure timeline and delivery commitments are tightly managed and aligned with reporting or project deliverables.

  7. Designs non-regulatory reporting, alerts, dashboards, data models, automated data extraction processes and other end-user information portals or resources, as well as responding to ad-hoc requests enabling fact-based decisions (based on analysis of past data) for business stakeholders.

  8. Able to analyze complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate root causes/drivers. Support the “story-telling” to ensure insights are delivered in a meaningful and relevant manner to key partners and stakeholders.

  9. Recommends solutions and takes a design focus when planning end-to-end build of processes and/or programs (based on business needs), ensuring compliance with Business Intelligence framework and methodology.

  10. Oversee testing enhancements / changes to existing data sources and identifying, monitoring, and communicating data quality issues.

  11. Responsible for the development and production of monthly and quarterly senior management risk reports, and regulatory reports.

  12. Summarize and describe changes in the Bank’s credit risk globally for internal and external stakeholders.

  13. Assist in preparation of the GRM quarterly report to the Board of Directors and Briefing Binder Report used by the Executive Management.

  14. Participate in the identification, assessment, measurement, and monitoring of complex, cross-enterprise risks, and communicating these to Executives and the Board of Directors.

  15. Effectively determine, allocate and manage resources among multiple projects/deliverables.

  16. Effectively communicating with GRM, IT&S, Regulators (OSFI & BoC), Finance, Audit, Retail, Credit and Banking groups.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

  • A minimum of five or more years of progressive, relevant and practical experience with world class organizations, preferably with financial institutions, in information management fields, and a proven track record of success in implementing effective information systems that support and generate profitable and informed decision-making in the financial services sector.

  • The incumbent must have experience and knowledge of complex data models, programming, testing, problem solving and data analysis experience in order to work cross functionally within an environment of multiple data repositories, multi-systems, multi-architectures, and multi-business lines. Particularly, excellent knowledge and experience in the following areas are essential:

  • Ability to lead multiple projects, coordinate activities with various stakeholders in a timely, organized manner.

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and action plans.

  • Deep data mining and technical skills and experience translating data into consumable messages.

  • Working with large amounts of data from a variety of different sources.

  • Superior skills in business analysis and drafting functional specifications leading to the completion of complex functional specifications or External Design Documents.

  • Be innovative in devising solutions that will streamline processes and improve effectiveness.

  • knowledge of project and process management disciplines.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to influence and secure co-operation \ assistance from other departments.

  • Experience effectively working in a global matrix team, across a range of functions, seniority, and geography.

  • A broad range of cross-functional business, industry and functional knowledge is required to integrate technical solutions with business requirements.

  • Accountable for end-to-end delivery – leads team in the design, development, maintenance, and management of reporting solutions.

  • Specialized depth of knowledge in programming to leverage tools and methods to provide solutions to complex questions from the business; works with a lot of ambiguity.

  • A strong knowledge of the Bank's policies & processes, technical platform applications and financial information systems would be an asset.

  • Experience with SQL and Power BI is preferred.

  • Experience with data analysis and Business Intelligence tools is a definite asset.

  • Advanced graduate university degree (typically in mathematics, business administration, technology, statistics or equivalent). Previous Banking and/or Credit experince is desireable. CFA, FRM designation an asset. Previous Banking and/or Credit experince is desireable.
