The Role
As a member of the Global Banking and Markets (GBM) Communications team, the Senior Manager, GBM Communications, will play a leading role in producing internal and external communications for Scotiabank’s GBM business. The Senior Manager, GBM Communications will conceptualize, create, deliver, and measure the success of internal and external communications while ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures and are aligned to GBM strategy and all-Bank priorities.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Leads the end-to-end process (including conceptualizing and creating the communications strategy, development and delivery/distribution of communications, and measuring success) of internal and external communications for assigned portfolios while ensuring alignment with Global Communications, all-Bank and GBM strategy and priorities, by:
Being a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team and working closely with business partners, senior management, and other key stakeholders.
Supporting external communication requirements, including managing inbound media inquiries, obtaining approvals, developing briefs, and supporting proactive media opportunities to support GBM while ensuring strong alignment to enterprise priorities.
Ensuring communication alignment across our global GBM channels and calendars.
Representing GBM communications on various working teams and at periodic cross-functional status meetings.
Leads global/broader GBM-wide communications initiatives and projects.
Provides support on executive communication priorities as needed.
Contributes to the effective functioning of the GBM Communications team by:
Supporting a high-performance environment that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team.
Acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior business leaders, key partners and communications leaders across the bank.
Fostering strong relationships with stakeholders to further the Bank’s communications objectives.
Leveraging feedback from formal and informal channels to deliver strong and aligned communications.
Staying current and implementing communications best practices.
Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
Fostering a culture that fosters new ideas, effective challenge, and promotes open and honest communication.
Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches, and recommending process improvements.
Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in communications, journalism or equivalent experience.
Minimum of eight (8) years working experience in a corporate communications or related industry communications experience in a complex, dynamic, knowledge-based environment.
Knowledge of the financial services marketplace with an understanding of Scotiabank’s competitive positioning within those markets.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to drive internal and external engagement across a large employee base and amongst a range of stakeholders.
Knowledge and experience communicating via print, web, visual media and emerging communication platforms; social media experience an asset – with demonstrated experience in leveraging the latest communication vehicles to effectively communicate to employees.
Media relations experience preferred.
Comfort working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, with an ability to remain calm under pressure.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail and ability balance multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
A high degree of comfort briefing, supporting, and engaging with senior decision-makers or C-suite executives.
Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with colleagues across a range of functions.
An ability to solve problems and work in a matrixed environment.
Fluency in a secondary language (Spanish/French) is an asset.
A commitment to curiosity, and professional and personal growth.
Discrete ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
Strong strategic thinking skills and financial acumen, and a high-level of accountability for the quality and timely completion of projects.
Demonstrated ability to take complex ideas and translate them into digestible key messages that resonate with audience.
Flexible and willing to take on new challenges as they present themselves.
Ability to create enthusiasm and foster a team environment.
Excellent knowledge of business-related software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Desktop publishing and video experience is an asset.
