The opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director/AVP, Philanthropy, the Senior Manager, Foundations is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s national strategy for approaching foundations and granting agencies to grow investments in March of Dimes Canada’s (MODC) new journey to be the leader in unlocking the potential of children, youth, and adults with disabilities.

This role will manage and oversee MODC’s grant application process, including identification of potential new funding sources, identifying and approaching foundations for funding support, researching prospects, relationship building with current and new prospects, cultivation, and proposal writing and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee a national strategy to grow and develop our grants and foundations portfolio.

  • Oversee the research and identification of foundations and government grant opportunities that align with MODC’s philanthropy objectives.

  • Lead the research, development, writing, and creation of all collateral materials, including inspiring letters of intent, funding proposals, grant applications, and cases for support for MODC.

  • Collaborate across multiple teams, including the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team, to develop work plans, budgets, etc.

  • Manage a pipeline list (approximately 150+) of high-impact, core donors (in the $5K+ level) for cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship opportunities.

  • Work with other senior members of the Philanthropy team to support revenue targets and to ensure communications are consistent, compelling, meaningful, and on brand.

  • Build and manage strong relationships with funders and MODC program staff.

  • Support the campaign volunteers, the President & CEO, Executive Directors, senior staff, and volunteers with briefing notes, proposals, stewardship reports, and arrangements for meetings with donors and prospects.

  • Oversee and ensure current research and program impact data, including statistics, citations, stories, and client testimonials, is up to date and accurate.

  • Develop a system to monitor grant administration, including timelines, deliverables, reporting, and recognition requirements, and liaise with other internal departments to meet requirements.

  • Work with the Philanthropy team to develop proposal budgets in line with organizational budgets, revenue goals, and funder capacity.

  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Director/AVP, Philanthropy on the status of grant applications.

  • Ensure the effective updating and utilization of a CRM database.

  • Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports.

Qualifications and experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree related to Fundraising, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Minimum seven years of progressive experience in the fundraising field, including proposal writing, with proven success in securing grants.

  • Demonstrated success in identifying and securing new philanthropic partnerships with foundations, government, and grantors, including those at a $5K+ level.

  • Experience in donor stewardship research and donor stewardship.

  • Proven experience managing budgets and handling financial reporting.

  • Superior writing skills with the ability to tailor content for specific funders.

  • Expert in articulating KPIs and outcomes according to funder needs.

  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Self-motivated to achieve results and contribute effectively as a team player.

  • Proven ability to meet goals within strict timelines.

  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information in a fast-paced fundraising environment.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with robust experience in donor management databases.
