Contributes to the overall success of the Insurance Canada division, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures activities conducted comply with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
Be an actuarial Function lead and actuarial IFRS17 lead; responsibilities include:
Monthly running of New Business onerosity testing and complete the writeback process
Monthly running of the IFRS17 valuation models
Maintaining the IFRS17 models and develop enhancements as needed
Conduct annual Experience Studies and Assumption updates
Ownership of the Bulk accounting process
Review Financial results from Risk Integrity for reasonableness
Support IFRS17 reporting process by collaborating with various functions of the company including optimizing roles and responsibilities with IT and Finance divisions
Take ownership of capital calculations including LICAT calculations, EWST and dividend recommendations
Package financial reporting and work with external Appointed Actuary
Support Actuarial Pricing staff as it relates to IFRS17
Assist senior management with data analysis for business insights
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of the respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
Fellowship in the Canadian Institute of Actuaries or Society of Actuaries
Insurance product knowledge – creditor and direct-to-consumer products
Experience with insurance product analysis including lapse and mortality studies
Experience with IFRS17 valuation and reporting
Proficiency in advanced excel and Moody’s AXIS and Risk Integrity software
Proficiency in analytics software including PowerBI is an asset.
Strong technical and stakeholder management skills
